JEAN'S SPECIAL POST

I know I usually don't post on the Lord's Day, but I did not want to take away from Kevin's post tomorrow.

First David and I would like to apologize for kidding Marilyn about the outside planters.  He didn't realize she asked for New York State of Mind.  If this offended anyone, we apologize.

I love my Grandmother Olive and she would do just about anything for anyone - but she likes to be the boss and sometimes takes things the wrong way.  Anyway, to make a long story short, she  does not want to do the canning posts right now.  This is the second time she has done this.  I apologize for all those that asked questions.  Marilyn did get someone who graciously has accepted to do this post - her name is Sue Ann, who has commented on New York State of Mind and did the mushrooms post.  Sue Ann has been canning since she could remember with her Grandmother's Aunts, and her Mom.  Her first post will be on July 1st.  You can ask her questions on the comments now or on her post.  Marilyn will also send Sue Ann all the questions you folks sent her for Grandma Olive.  Sue Ann said she would answer the questions.  We thank Sue Ann, so much for taking this on for us.

We have had things come up on Edward and Katie's adoptions.  Someone who is a relative to one of the children read about the Old Order Mennonite in Winnipeg, Canada accused of beating their children with whips, cattle prods, and straps.  Because we are Old Order Mennonite's they feel we do such things, which we do not.  We have never done anything to our children-natural or adopted.  This is going to court.  As we do not believe in suing, we did not want an attorney-but we were appointed one.  We are trying to do as they ask.   We are not the only Old Order Mennonite that are going through this right now,

All of our children, natural and adopted had to be checked by the doctor for scars, etc. for the lawyer.  The only one that has scars is Michael which were done by his natural parents-Social Services had pictures of the scars before he came to us.  It did not help that Edward fell down the basement stairs and broke his ankle the day before the children were suppose to go to the doctor.

Even Martha and Joseph had to have their children checked by the doctor and at present, they don't have any foster children at their home.  Sarah that did a post on Amish Stories a while back, had the same problem.

Right now the attorney said we shouldn't have any problems.  Of course attorney fees are making it a little tight on us.  This is planting season not harvest season.  All the children offered their money from the savings accounts we have for them.  But we aren't going that far-yet,

I will try to do posts, but right now, I am not sure what is coming up.  If I can't make them, I wanted you to know that Martha would be taking over for me.  I hope you understand.

Be With God,
Jean

FROM MARILYN

If you get Guideposts Magazine, July, 2013 has a story in there called Sustained.  It is on page 34.  The article is by Pauline Weaver, a Mennonite, in Penn Yan, New York.   I have read the article and I think others would enjoy it.

Thank you for telling us Jean-I am so sorry you and your Family are having to go through this- unfortunately the actions of others do sometimes affect the innocent-and tar them with the same brush -it does not help that the media agravate this-with sensational coverage

You are a strong loving Family and your Faith will see you through

I shall keep you all in my prayers

Morning Marilyn

Dear Jean,
I am so sorry your family has to suffer this...the actions of one, affects so many...It sounds like your attorney has it in hand...and I will keep your family in our daily prayers...
Please tell Olive she is missed here...she has a wealth of knowledge that is appreciated, and missed..give her my beat, I would like to be able to talk with her some day.
I wish you well this week....

What a terrible ordeal to go through. If that relative would go back and read the posts that you have written on NYS of Mind, I'm sure that they would know how loving and caring you and David are.

I'll be praying that this is over quickly and with a very happy ending.

Marilyn, the purple quilt is the very one my friend told me about. As soon as I saw it I knew that it fit the description of her favorite one. She said that it looked like you could put your hand through it.

Good Morning Everyone,
Thank you for prayers, I know Jean will appreciate them. She told me her attorney said that someone was trying to give them a hard time, but feels it shouldn't go anywhere as of the great record Jean and David have had with all their foster children. They have had more foster children in their home than we have mentioned. Most came for a night or two and left. That's one of the many reasons David and Jean wanted the bigger
house. But still they worry.

Hi Doreen,
I think someone is trying to give Jean and David a hard time because of who they are. If they weren't Old Order Mennonite, I don't think they would be going through this.

How about that on the quilt. It is just like your friend described. Glad you liked it. The pictures don't do it justice. They were selling for between $350.00 and $450.00 in the auctions, which is a lot, but no where it would cost if you went into a store to buy one. In the Amish or Mennonite homes, or in a store that sells homemade Amish and Mennonite quilts-these would go for between $800.00 and a $1,000.00. I want to try and save up to get one at the Haiti Auction next year. My problem would be is which one to buy-I loved them all.

I will pray that all turns out well in this situation. I was involved in a social services investigation recently, accused by someone all ready in trouble, and had to wait 30 long days before I and others were completely cleared. It seems anymore with them you are guilty until proven innocent. Since then I have a new place of employment in a different line of work.

Thank you for your comment-it tells how the system works. Just because Old Order Mennonites have been accused in Canada doesn't mean someone in the U.S. would do it. I don't think it's been proven that Old Order Mennonite in Canada did it. Glad you found a different line of work, but it is sad that you had to do that.

Hello Jean and David. First of all let me say how heavy my heart is today for you both and also for the kids. It saddens me that you all must go through this because of the actions of others. Sometimes we do not understand what God has planned for us to learn in situations when they are difficult but if I could I would share this scripture with you. Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose. I believe your purpose is to love these children he has brought into your life and it will all work out. I will continue to pray for all of you. Keep looking up!! Blessing Veronica

Hi Marilyn, I know Pauline Weaver from Penn Yan, NY, since I've been a customer of her store for a number of years before they decided to close it. She asked me to read the article she wrote before she decided to submit it for publishing. I thought it was great and I'm sure others will like it also. Tell Jean their family will be kept in prayer for this "unnerving"(to say the least) trial. May Our Lord bless you with His favor and mercy with this situation re: Edward and Katie. Blessings, Carol

Hello Carol,

It's a small world. Seeing she lived in Penn Yan, NY where the Haiti Auction was at and not far from my house - I thought this interesting. If you talk with Pauline, tell her I really enjoyed her article. I will pass your comments on to Jean.
