Coming back from Jean's one day, I saw these road side fruit, vegetable and flower stands along the road. Thought you might like to see some of them. These are a mixture of Amish, Mennonite and Englisher stands. On the fourth one down you can see the can they have to put your money in.

Can anyone put up one of these stands or do you need a license/permit
In Germany this is very common to have these booth and it goes by the honor system. I would go with my father to the stand to pick up our sax of potatoes and put the money in the can. We would do the same with cut flowers.

Many of the people here go by the honor system, too, Just like you do in Germany. Many of them here have glass jars with a metal top. Either there is a hole in the top to put the money through or you have to unscrew the top and put money in.

I don't really know if you need a license/permit or not. Let me see if I can find out. I know Jean has a permit for hers in front of her house, but I don't know if everyone has to have one.

I called Jean and I also called a friend in our county regarding if you need a license/permit to set up a roadside fruit, vegetable or flower stand. The answer is yes, you have to have a permit. Some people don't have them and get away with it, but you are suppose to have a permit before you set up a roadside stand. If you don't have a permit and are found out, you could be fined.

With fruit being pretty expensive in regular super markets along with food in general, most of theses small food stands seem like a down right bargain compared to the box stores!
Sadly most of them will be closing soon over my way as most fruit becomes out of season, and what I like about the Amish stands is that they also sell breads and pies and jams too!

Really nice photos Marilyn. I hope you are well. I have been enjoying the the blog daily but have not been commenting often. It was great to also read from Olive again. I am glad she has choosen to do another post here. What a blessing for all of us. Sue Ann has also shared a wealth of information and I will be returning to her information often. It is also great to hear from Jean as usual I love reading how everyone in her family is doing. I hope you are also doing well Marilyn. Do you know any more about doing some teaching again? I have spent the lat month quite sick and I am waiting for some tests to be done. Hopefully I will get some answers soon. The roadside stands and Farmers Markets are getting ready to close down. Now we will have to go back to the grocery store to buy. It is sad. Our Amish, here, have baked goods at their stands, too.
