ANNA'S HERB AND FLOWER SACHETS

With Spring finally here with flowers and herbs coming out, I thought you might like to freshen and beautify your house.  You can also make these for gifts.

SACHET BAGS

Combine 1 oz. each of powdered cloves, caraway seed, nutmeg, mace and cinnamon with 6 oz, powdered orris root.  Put up in fancy lace and calico bags and sew shut.  You can hang these in the closet or place them in a drawer.  These fragrant sachets also repel moths.  These make great gifts.

ANOTHER SACHET FOR CLOTHES CLOSET, DRAWERS AND GIFTS

1 thin-skinned orange
2 oz. more or less whole cloves
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground orris root
Dab of ground allspice

Prick the orange with an ice pick.  Stick in cloves as close together as you can without splitting the orange skin between holes.  When the orange has been completely covered, roll in ground cinnamon, orris root, and allspice.  Take a square of nylon net big enough to draw around orange.  Tie with bright ribbon.  Hang in closet for nice clean, spicy smell.

FRIENDSHIP POTPOURRI

2 cups peony petals
1 cup rosebuds
1 cup chamomile flowers
1 cup linden flowers
1 tbsp allspice
4-5 drops patchouli oil

Dry all petals, buds, flowers, etc.  Use a screen propped to give circulation all around.  Drying takes 2 to 10 days.  When dry, blend petals and oil in a ceramic bowl.  When well blended, store in an airtight container.

The last one, you might want to make up for antime, but especially next winter.

ROSE JAR

When your roses are blooming, gather petals before the sun is high.  Spread them in 1/2 inch layers on paper, sprinkle with salt, and let stand in shade.  Ten days after the last petals are added to the others, add 1/4 oz. ground cloves and 1/4 oz. ground mace.  You may also add one drop of rose geranium or 1 oz. of cologne over the mixture.  Put in a jar and you will have a delightful rose fragrance.
