SENIOR CITIZEN GARDENS WHERE I LIVE
Here are the gardens of the residents of the apartments I live in. The top two photos are of Sam's. He started small and every year he gets a bit larger. I thought his birdbath there was nice. The third picture is the garden of a new resident here. The next two belong to Randy. Anna had mentioned fence around gardens in one of her posts and Randy's garden has one. He says the rabbits and deer eat his if he doesn't have that fence. His garden is closest to the forest back here. The rest of the pictures are of the gardens behind the tower apartment across the street that is part of our complex. Those that wanted one could have a space in the two garden lines. As you can see, they are all taken. There are flowers, vegetables, and herbs in them. Hope you enjoyed our senior citizen gardens.

Good Marilyn, love all the pics of the gardens. We also have to fence in our vegetable garden since the deer and other little creatures think we planted the veggies just for them to enjoy! We also have plastic grocery bags tied all around the top of the fence, marigolds planted (supposedly deer don't like them), and have used bar soap shavings around the perimeter. We will see who wins this battle this year. Enjoy your day, looks like a lovely one! Cathy in Webster
Good Morning Cathy,
Sam has some flowers in his garden to keep the deer and rabbits out. They worked on the deer,so far, but not on the rabbits. My apartment backs up to Sam's garden. Whenever there is a rabbit down there Pierre barks then Pierre and I go down and chase it out of the garden. Glad you like the pictures. It looks like a lovely day here, for sure.. Enjoy your day, too.

It's really nice that your apartment complex provides space for a garden if you want one. I'm sure that Pierre likes to look out for the rabbits.

Good Morning Doreen,
It is nice that the apartments provide space for gardens. It is on a first come, first gets system at the tower. So sometimes you have to wait a year or so to get a place. Pierre likes to look at the rabbits, but he LOVES to chase the rabbits.

Good Morning Marilyn,
What a wonderful idea for letting people continue to garden! And it must be nice for others that Pierre is such a good watchdog :)
Our local community center recently opened up community gardens - they are only for senior citizens and disadvantaged youths who are brought together to plan out, build raised beds, and garden throughout the season.
Hope you and everyone has a good weekend!

Hi Laura,
The idea of the gardens came from someone in the Department of Aging and Youth. They started them behind the tower before I moved in here. After the first year, the gardens were still there so the tenants took it over and it is where it is today.
Behind the building I live in, Sam was the first one to start a small one. Over the years his garden has grown and some more were added.

Very nice pictures of very productive gardens. I love to garden and especially enjoy all that fresh produce that I know where it came from and I helped it to grow.
Hi Bonnie,
I agree with you. You know what they sprayed it with or didn't spray it with. It just seems to taste better coming from a garden.
