ELMER FOUND OUT WHAT MADE JOHN SICK

We finally found out what was making John so sick.  Even though Eli's friend had offered to switch farms with John - John wanted to keep the farm he had purchased, if he could.  I understand him, because I think back to the first farm we owned.  Then we moved to two states, then back to Pennsylvania and bought the same farm we started from again.  So we had to see if we could find what was wrong and if we could correct it so John could keep the farm.  Even if Eli's son owned that farm, it would mean that John couldn't go into his best friends house.

Problem being, at this time, John is going through that age when he knows everything and us older folks don't know anything.  So when the doctor results of all the tests that John had taken came through, John did not go along with them.  It ended with the doctor saying if John had been working in the house for two months and this recently started, he believed that John's health problems was do to something he put in the house and not something that was in the house.  Doctor suggested more tests, which John wanted to think about.

Finally, after getting John's permission, I called a company from Rochester, New York to come in and test the house.  While we were waiting for them to come, we got all the receipts for what we put in our house and John got his receipts out for all he put in his house.  There had to be something that was in his house that wasn't in ours.  He could breath in our house.  Also Eli's son got his receipts for what he had put in his house as he had remodeled his and John could breath in his house.  Nothing that would effect John's health was in any of our receipts.

The company came from Rochester and ran all sorts of tests.  They ran the tests through and called us on my cell phone (with Eli's permission).  The said there was no asbestos, black mold, etc.  Whatever it was - was something that he put in the house.  Then they said: they are not doctors, but could it be the insulation.  John said no.

That evening, we were all at our house and tried to decide what was different in the insulation that was in the three houses.  We had our insulation blown in our house, Eli's son had his blown in his house, but John was putting his in his house.  Off we went to John's house.  He hadn't been in it since he got sick.  He walked in the door and started sneezing.  We got him out immediately.  He stopped.  All of us went to where he stored the insulation that he hadn't put in the house yet.  Soon as he walked in, he started sneezing.  We got him out immediately.

Next day, Eli and his and John's friends went over to the house and took down the walls and took out the insulation.  I called the company in Rochester and they sent a crew down to put something on the walls that made sure all the insulation was out.  They also took out the rest of the insulation that John had stored.  After they left, we took John into the house and he could breath.  The next day he went there to work for a few hours to make sure and he was just fine.  So now, we are waiting for the people that blew the insulation in our house and Eli's son's house to blow it into John's house.

We finally got to the bottom of this with John and he was trying to save money.  Putting in the insulation is less expensive than having it blown in.  In the end, it cost more money than if he had let them blow it in to begin with.  There is something that is in the insulation that he was putting in that is not in the insulation that is blown in that he is allergic to.

After service Sarah's Father slipped me an envelope with some money in it for John.  I told him, it was John's problem, but he said it will be his daughter's home too.  It had the money in it to pay  for having the insulation blown into the house.  Anna and I paid the bills for the company from Rochester.  Bishop Eli went to the hospital to pay John's hospital and doctor bill.  Anna and I offered to pay it, but Eli said no.  He said to think of all the donations we had made over the years - now it was time for John to receive.  The only loss John has is for the original insulation that he bought.  He said  he won't forget that.

Eli and I were talking about this.  Eli told me to enjoy that John admits that I am right, he was wrong as we may not have this happen again for a long time.

Trust God's Wisdom,
Elmer

I had to laugh with the last statement. ;)
What a mess! So glad you all got to the bottom of the problem though. It is wonderful that John and Sarah will be able to live in their home after all.

Good Morning Vickie,

I like that last statement, too.

I agree with you that I am glad they will be able to live in the house.

Hugs to Mabel and Henry,

I am so happy it turned out the way it did. Insulation is serious stuff, my husband would have gone the cheaper way and would have gotten sick.

Good Morning Marilyn. Happy to read that John is well now. Good detective work. I also got a chuckle from the comment by Eli. I so enjoy all the writings of Elmer, Anna, Jean, and you. I don't tell you that enough but it is always a joy visiting here. Have a great day.

Hi Elmer, Unfortunately each human being early on in life think they know better than their elders. No one's exempt, but hopefully they learn their lesson quickly+don't continue in that way of thinking. So very glad the problem has been identified+remediated. Due to John's severe allergic reaction during this incident, I hope he will not encounter any pulmonary consequences in the future. Smooth sailing toward John+Sarah's wedding now! "Thank You,Lord, for Your grace, mercy, and protection".
In Christ, Carol

Fiberglass!!! That is what is in it...I learned that too..when helping my dad one time..those teeny fibers can get under your skin, in your lungs..and are deadly!!! also, urea is used in some manufactors insulation...So glad you figured it out.

Hi Marilyn, My husband said it's important to find out the material in the original insulation that was the culprit in Elmer's son's allergic reaction since it could possibly be in other materials+therefore be avoided. So important to read labels, getting as much info on these products as possible-be cautious. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. An old adage that is truly wisdom-filled. Carol

Hi SueAnn and Carol,
Yup, it was insulation. I guess they found out what it in that John can't take. Like Elmer said, that type of insulation wasn't in any other house they owned. I guess it was something in the cheapest insulation that is not in other insulation. The company in Rochester tested and told them what it was. My Dad told me that insulation was bad too years ago. I guess John leaned his lesson - an expensive lesson.

It could have been worse! Thank You, Lord, that it wasn't and John's ok. Amen! Blessings, Carol
PS-a friend of mine in Alabama took a beautiful pic of the Harvest moon+posted on FaceBook. Apparently a nicely clear evening for the shot. She just got a new camera for her birthday last week.

Another good thing to come from this is that you can let everyone know. So that if anyone you know is already sensitive they will not even take the risk and will get the blown in type. Or if one of their children is sensitive or has asthma. Many people, myself included who have Lyme disease (chronic or not) become sensitive. I was never sensitive to anything prior to having Lyme disease. Years later I am still sensitive. The area of sensitivity is my lungs they go into some type of spasm.

I went to the doctors and when I went to check in the woman standing next to me had on heavy perfume and I immediately started having trouble breathing and needed assistance or I would collapse. Once away from the lady my lungs calmed down.

I am glad he had the test done as you never do know, I think it is worthwhile. Although I do understand as starting out as a new couple and being prudent with finances. So glad all is well and it was sweet of the brides father to do what he did. I think all of us married folk remember back in the beginning.
