ELMER'S FIRST POST FOR 2015

I want to thank Jean for filling in for me last week.  Guess I really messed up there.  As Jean said, we were invited to some people from church home for dinner.  While there some friends from Pennsylvania came that we hadn't seen in a long time.  They were suppose to have been here for John and Sarah's wedding, but were taken ill so couldn't attend the wedding or Sarah's Father's funeral.  Also, they are thinking of moving to New York State.  They assumed they would be staying at the wife's parents house, but didn't both to call them before they came.  They wanted to surprise them.  It was a surprise all right because when they got here, her parents weren't home.  So they stayed at our house, which we all enjoyed.  Anyway we got talking and I forgot all about the post.  So I am being early this week, so I don't forget again.

While here, the people looked at property around here.  The area that Anna and I have next to our place was to small for them.  I don't know if they made a decision on one or not.  They also went over to John and Sarah's to see them and their new to them  house.  Also, they went visiting others in the area.  On Wednesday the wife's parents returned, but we had them stay at our house until they were ready to leave.

The weather has been cold here for sure.  I know some people really enjoy it especially the young folks and I did when I was their age.  But I don't enjoy it as much anymore.  The older I get, the less I like it.  As Anna says the cold weather makes us appreciate the other seasons more. I believe she is right.

We are talking about our annual trip to Pinecraft for this year.  I think we are going in March.  Last year, we booked for a short cruise this year and I have to make sure when that is.  Bishop Eli and his wife are going in February.  Wanted us to go too.  Also, John wants to take Sarah as she has never been before.  Bishop Eli said that he and his wife could stay at his parents and we could have the other place that he owns.  They didn't say, but I don't think John and Sarah really want to stay with us or Bishop Eli.  I think they would like to go, just the two of them and I can't blame  them.  Also if everyone is gone, who will take care of the farms.  I know people from our church will, but we don't all have to go at the same time.  So right now, Anna and I are booked to leave the last of February for the month of March.  John and Sarah are going the end of this month for the month of February.

Church is at our house next Sunday.  Anna has it planned for cooking, cleaning, and whatever.  I know some of our daughters and other ladies of the church will be here to help her.  It is the first time we have had church in our new home, so Anna wants the house spotless.  I have to make sure the barn is clean, and there is place to park the buggies, etc.  On Saturday, the men will come with the board chairs for church and then converted into tables to eat from after service.  We will have to move the big living room and the little room furniture out of the way so we can set up. So we will be busy this week.

A little thing that is done at our church is that at church last week, the lady whose house it was for church, gave Anna a container filled with cookies for us.  At service this coming Sunday, Anna will fill the container with home made cookies and give it to the lady whose house will have the next service.  It is just something the ladies started and they really enjoy it.

I thank you all for the great welcome Sarah got last week.  She never thought that many people would be interested in her way of life.  I told her.  We are working on getting her to come back again.

Trust God's Wisdom,
Elmer

Good Morning Everyone,

Hope you enjoyed Elmer this morning. Tomorrow Grandmother Olive will be on talking about quilts.

It is in the 30's here so far today. Snowing, but warmer that it was.

Hello! I cannot wait to read the post on quilting - I am an avid quilter. Throughout my lifetime, I have found a special kinship with fellow quilters - they all seem to have a special "sparkle" that is a gift......Thank you!

Good Morning Chris,

I always wanted to learn quilting, but never did. Jean, Anna and Grandmother Olive have all offered to teach me, but they are so much better than I will ever be.

It's hard to believe that it's been a year since Elmer and Anna went to Pinecraft. I remember John leaving early because Elmer suspected that he wanted to see his Lady Friend back home. And now his Lady Friend is his wife. Life sure moves fast in the Amish world.

I hope everything works out for Elmer, Anna, John and Sarah to enjoy a vacation in Florida.

I'm really looking forward to reading about Grandmother Olive talking about quilts.

Thanks for the update, Elmer! I pray all of you who will be going to Pinecraft will enjoy the break from routine, being able to return refreshed and invigorated.
Marilyn, You know Jean,G'mother Olive, and Anna have been quilting most of their lives, so of course they're better than you with this craft. That should make no difference at all, except that you will be learning from wonderful quilters! Don't be shy, girl! Begin the journey and learn from them. You have such an awesome opportunity right in front of you, with ladies you love. Go for it! (Just a little encouragement for ya, how about it!). Blessings, Carol

Hi Doreen,

I guess John kept his lady quite for a while. Things do move fast among the Amish sometimes. I will see that Elmer gets your message.

Hi Carol,

I will see that Elmer gets your message.

Will wait until the weather gets better before I go to their house often. I would learn from the best that is sure.
