ELMER'S POST

Found out in church last Sunay that we are going to have a wedding in our church next week.  It was kind of a shock.  We had no idea.

Most of the Amish weddings are in October, November, and December after harvest time.  Sometimes, if it is a senior couple, they have it at church, anytime of year.  So the fact that a senior couple was getting married next week did not surprise us.  But, when Bishop Eli said it was Anna's Father and a widow lady we knew, I thought Anna and her sister Hannah, were going into shock and I was about to join them.  Church will be at Bishop Eli's next Sunday and a dinner will follow the church service.

It got me that Bishop Eli didn't tell me or at least give me a hint.  He said church business is church business and he doesn't tell until published on Sunday - unless he thinks there is a possible problem with their marriage - and he doesn't with this one.

Anna's Dad was sitting with his lady in the living room at Hannah's when we got there.  They had these big grins on their face.  We were happy and suprised.  Also, we wondered why they hadn't told us.  Anna's Dad said he didn't think we would approve so soon after her Mother's death, but her Mother passed away over a year ago.  We all approved.

Anna's Dad is marrying a very nice lady.  She is a widow.  They knew each other back in school days.  When her husband passed several of the people had helped keep up the work on her farm until she sold it - Anna's Father and myself included.  Now she has a small house on the land of one of her children - not too far from our house- and that is where they will live.

What got us is that none of us suspected.  We knew he still went to her house to help, when needed, but so did others. One thing we have to admit is his atitude has changed.  Before he would frown, crummble, speak to us shortly, but that all has changed.  He has his smile back again.  He speaks with a happier tone.  Anna and I hadn't seen him have this atitude in years.

Hannah is making him the suit for the wedding.  Anna says Hannah is much better at sewing than hers, but both of their sewing looks fine to me - which Anna said "men".  Bishop Eli won't let us help on the dinner.  He said that is all taken care of.

We are all so happy for Anna's Father and his, soon to be, wife.

Trust God's Wisdom,
Elmer

Blessing on the happy couple, and also on the family, who were gracious, wise and caring enough to see that the joy of the present doesn't NEGATE the love of past relationships, but CONTINUES the journey. Deb
