ELMER'S POST -WE GOT OUR RAIN

The Lord has answered our prayers and we did get our rain.  We so thanked the Lord for his being so generous.  I know in some places they got a great deal more than they needed - houses damaged, trees down - but we did get some wind, but made it through fine.

Because of the rain, our crops are doing a great deal better.  Because of this, we get to pay our bills and put some money in the bank for the coming winter months.

It's funny, no matter what the weather, God can't please everyone.  Today, we have sun and the weather is suppose to reach the 90's.  Some people say that is way too hot.  I say, it sure beats snow.  Some say they wish it were snow.  Sure, I would rather it be in the 70's or 80's, but I will take what God gives me.  I know when snow comes, I will appreciate that.

Anna says "Don't count on it."  She knows I prefer the spring, summer and fall weather than the winter.  But, we have to have snow in upstate New York.  Anna says "You take the snow when it comes in November or December, but by March and April, you are nuts."  Again, she is right.  In March and April, I want to start farming and it seems more and more snow comes.

Right now, I am trying to appreciate the weather we have.  Anna, Hannah, Alma and Sarah are canning.  They do canning for us through the winter, but they also give some of their canning away for gifts especially at Christmas time.  Also, they can for people who can't do it anymore.  We like to share the goods the Lord has given us.

Also, our stand is doing pretty good.  We try to come to the stand when someone pulls up, but we can't always. Now, we clear everything off in the evening and empty the money.  Since my last post, I only had someone lift us once and we saw the car.  As Bishop Eli said, we called the police, which we usually don't do.  It was about a week later when the police caught the young folks.  They had a set up - one would pull up and the other would jump out and take the money - then back in the car and off they went.  The fellow that stole the money wore gloves so as not to leave finger prints. Didn't matter if it was Englisher, Mennonite or Amish, they took all they could get.

One of the Englishers had a camera and caught the picture of them once, but for some reason didn't get the license plate number on the car.  What finally got them was they stopped at one place and the owner came out with a rifle in his hand and told them to stop of he would use it.  They were still going to leave until they heard him cock the rifle.  He called the Police on his cell phone.  The funny part was - the rifle wasn't loaded.

I guess these young folks had been going to stands and stealing money sometimes during the day and sometimes in the evening.  Since them, the stealing has cut way down.

Well, I guess that is all the news I can think of.  Anna says I should keep notes of what I want to put on here.  Of course, she added you didn't keep notes in school and you won't now.  She is for sure right..

Trust God's Wisdom,
Elmer

Sorry about the stealing, but glad at least some of them were caught. Sadly, it's around here too.
I'm glad the crops have revived with the rain, hope it continues to do well.

I am glad the thieves were caught. I hope all the stealing comes to an end. It is sad it takes a rifle to do it. Even without bullets.

It's underhanded to steal from roadside stands.

My cousin, who owns an orchard, only deals through a couple of farmer's markets, or if you come to the property, but you have to drive in for that, and generally speaking there'll always be someone around during open hours. He gates off the driveway otherwise.
