Guess, I haven't a post on in a while. Didn't realize it until someone asked if we were all right. Thank you for asking, we are. Busy time of the year. We are all plowing and planting.
My last recipe, seems to have been one that you liked. I am trying to get recipes on with the seasons. To give recipes that go along with the current fruits and vegetables. If you would like certain recipes, please let me know.
Today is Father's Day, as I give this. We combined with Elmer's Amish group. As most of the Mother's Day and Father's Day dinners are usually held at Bishop Eli's, we had it at our house this year. We set up outside.
The men do all the work on Mother's Day, we ladies were going to set up all the tables and chairs outside - but the men wouldn't hear of it. They set up the tables and chairs - us ladies did the rest. We did the putting the settings and food on the table. Usually, we have a sit down at the tables, this time we had you could walk through and fill up plates or sit down and we serve you - which ever you wanted. The men went first and the ladies second. Oh, I almost forgot, before we ate, Bishop Joseph greeted us and offered grace. After dinner, Bishop Eli offered closing.
In addition to the food, the young folks played volley ball. The men talked. Us ladies went into the kitchen and talked. In our house, we have air conditioning do to when Grandmother Olive and Grandfather Albert lived here. We got permission for the air conditioning do to Grandfather Albert's heart condition. We got permission to turn it on today, from Bishop Joseph, do to the fact it was almost 90 degrees outside. We didn't want someone, that the heat bothered, sitting outside in the hot sun. We had tables inside our house that people could sit and dine at. We had a couple of older people use them.
After words, the men took the tables down and put them in the wagons. Ladies offered, but we were glad that the men did it. We all sang some religious songs. Both Bishop Joseph and Bishop Eli thanked the ladies for all the work and everyone for coming. People left shortly before milking time.
Tomorrow is washing day, so Katie and Susan will help me. Then we are going to clean the house and put everything back where it was.
Bishop Eli said, Lord willing, he would have Father's Day at his house next house next year. It really wasn't hard having it at our house as all helped. I believe we all enjoyed it.
Oh, I think I forgot to mention, a few months ago, that Katie's grandfather passed away. His wife lived in a big house all alone, after he passed. Right now, she is living with us where Grandmother Olive and Grandfather Albert use to live. We and Katie would like her to move in with us full time.
She is has lived in the city, all her life. She likes to go to the opera, plays, etc. , which we don't have here. So, her stay with us is sort of a dry run to see if she could live our way of life. We allowed her to have certain items in there, which we don't use like television, and radio. If she likes, she can move in permanent. She is Katie's only natural relative and she would like to live near Katie. Katie would like her near full time, too.
If Grandmother Olive and Grandfather Albert came back, we would still have room for them - although we would have some bedroom changes as we would want them on the ground floor.
Be With God,
Jean

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY - DADISMS
Do you remember your Father saying these?
DADISMS
Don't ask me, ask you mother.
Who said life was suppose to be fair?
Just wait until I get you home!
Be home early.
Hey, did you hear me talking to you?
A little pain never hurt anybody.
When I was your age...
I'll tell you what we're gonna do.
Enough is enough!
Don't make me stop the car!
Don't use that tone with me!
Did you know:
Did you know that one in twelve men serving in the U. S. Army are Dad's?
Did you know that there are 64.3 million fathers in America?
Did you know that two-thirds of the children under age of six, eat dinners with their Dad's every day?
Did you know that nearly a quarter of all married men have three or more children living at home?

MARBLETOWN ONE ROOM SCHOOL HOUSE - 2
The first three pictures are of the first aide kit that they had there. The third picture tells it was made in Buffalo, NY about 80 miles from where I live. Picture four is of President Washington. Picture five is their First Aide certificate way back then. Picture six is of a map. Seven is of the desk the students went to when working up front. Seven and eight are of cards they used. Eight is of one of their former students. Nine and ten are of other groups that met there in the evenings and news of the school. Eleven is another book they used. Picture twelve shows the bathroom that was put in in the 1930's so the students wouldn't have to use the outhouse in the winter. The first picture of the floor shows where the desks use to be attached. The second picture square shows where the original wood heater was installed. Admission to this school is free. They do have a place for donations, if you would like, but is not necessary. Would be interesting for adults or children.
THERE WILL BE A POST BOTH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, THIS WEEK.

MARBLETOWN ONE ROOM SCHOOL HOUSE - PART 1
On April 29, 2016, I had a post of outside pictures of the Marbletown One Room School House. I left my name and phone number with a lady across the street asking her to please call me when the school was opened for viewing. Last Saturday was the day. She called me in the afternoon and I drove to the school. First picture is the school. Second and third pictures were the entrance. Picture four was the back to the front. Picture five is from the front to the back. The heater in the back it a wood heater. The 48 star flag is next. Next are a book and chalk board students had. Dunce corner is next. Next is a picture of the one room school houses that use to be in Arcadia. There about three of those schools still standing - this one being the only open to the public. Next is a quilt made by the Ladies of Arcadia. Next a desk in the front. The next room is the girls coat room. There is a ladies coat room and a boys coat room. The girls is the only one that is completely restored. Next is the school library room. Next to the chair is the wood that is used in the heater. They have pictures of all the presidents during the time the school was used. Last are the chalk boards on the side of the room walls. They had chalk boards in the front and on the side of the school. There is another post of this school - tomorrow.

GRANDMOTHER OLIVE ON ARTHRITIS
Someone asked Jean about remedies for arthritis and seeing that I have it, Jean thought it would be better if I gave the post. First of all, see your doctor. I am not a medical doctor. If you try anything I suggest, you do it at your own risk.
In remedies as in doctor prescriptions, some work for some people and some don't. So they have to give them something else. When treating someone with herbs, food advice, vitamins, etc. you have to see what works - that is why I have so many suggestions.
Sometimes food cause arthritis pain. Some of these foods are:sugar, pork, strawberries, egg plant, green peppers, tomatoes, and potatoes. These can cause sort of a food poisoning in the system which is harmful to sensitive people.
Regarding food, it might help to reduce fat in your diet - it might reduce the pain. Eat less eggs, beef, pork and cheese.
Calcium and vitamin D combined pills also have been known to work on some people.
I make Alfalfa Tea, which has helped both Albert and I. Use 1 ounce Alfalfa seed (untreated) with 1 1/4 pints of water. Put in glass or enamel pan (not medal) and cook (not boil, so water is just moving) for one-half hour. After cooking, strain, squeezing or pressing seeds dry. To Use: mix strong base with one-half water (or to taste) for hot or cold tea. Use six or seven cups or four or five glasses a day for at least two weeks.
Drink 3 oz pure aloe vera juice 3 times a daily.
This one is very popular herbal tonic in the south. If you or your medicine has a reaction to citric acid - don't try this one. Cut 6 oranges, 6 lemons, 6 grapefruit. Cook the sliced fruit (peels and all) in 2 quarts of water and strain. Then add 1/2 c. Epsom salt. Let the water cook down to 1 quart and let stand overnight. Take 1 Tablespoon 3 times a day.
I have more remedies, but I don't want to give you anything that will take a long time to make or has herbs that you may not have.
Sometimes, being warmer helps the pain go away. Maybe wearing a sweater or shawl. When we are up north, on my side of the bed, I have the bottom sheet, a blanket to cover me, top sheet and then another blanket. As Albert does not like the inside blanket - it makes him hot - I have a blanket that just covers me. Some people have gotten an electric blanket and say that helps.
Being in Florida, the pain doesn't seem as bad down here. I think it has to do with the warm weather. Of course, it does get cold down here in the winter, but not as cold as up north. It being warmer longer in Florida, seems to help not just Albert and myself, but other of the residents with arthritis, too.
Again, anything you try is at your own risk. Please check with your doctor.
Be With God,
Olive

Things are going to be in different order this week, as you can see. Also, I will have something everyday through and including Saturday and Sunday this week. The Haiti Auction is in Penn Yann this coming weekend, but I don't think I will be able to attend. Don't forget Father's Day.
