Do you remember when Pres. Kennedy was Shot?

November 22, 2012 will mark 49 years since President Kennedy was shot and killed in Dallas, Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald. Do you remember that day? I was in my Freshman year in Latin Class of a Catholic High School. Mother Florence, our principal, annouced over the PA system that the President had been shot. At that time we didn't know how bad President Kennedy was. Our teacher led us in prayer then we returned to our lesson. Shortly, Mother Florence announcced that the President had died. We were to go to the auditorium where a Mass would be held. After Mass the buses were there and we went home. As this happened on a Friday, it was the last we were in school for over a week. At the time, I think we all went through what the Kennedy family did. TV was big then and everything from the shoting to the funeral was on. I can still remember Jacqueline Kennedy getting off Air Force One in the blood stained pink suit that she was wearing. I can remember their son, John Kennedy Jr, just a child, saluting as his father's casket came by. Also remember Oswald getting shot. I can always remember the date, because it happened the day after my Birthday-something I never forgot. There are things in life that happen that we never forget. Do you remember that day? Marilyn

  1. What made me put this on is first that my Birthday is a week from today. That the 49th Anniversary of Kennedy's being shot is on Thanksgiving Day, this year, but the most important reason was I have the original newspapers. Recently our local library had a book sale and I found the newspapers from Kennedy's being shot there. The library had put them on computer so were getting rid of the original newspapers-which I took. It was something to read through them again. Right now I have them for sale on ebay under ladydogmaster888, if anyone is interested. To think these newspapers were on file in the library for almost 49 years.

  2. I did the same thing when my library went digital! I didn't get the paper with the Kennedy assassination on the front, but got the paper when Nixon resigned.
Fascinating to read history in that way.

  3. It is fascinating Cheryl. There were a lot of things I forgot. Funny it doesn't seem like it happened that long ago, but it was that many years. Makes me feel old.

  7. I was in 8th grade in Catholic school, and Sr. Mary Josephine came over the system that afternoon to ask us all to stop what we were doing and pray for the President, who had been shot. I remember everyone gasping and some starting to cry. We ran home from school shortly thereafter, and kept glued to the television that night, still hardly believeing.

  9. I don't think that any of us who were around at the time can forget where we were when we heard the news of JFK's killing. I was pregnant with my first child and visiting my neighbor who was teaching me to knit. We were sitting in fromt of her television while I was knitting a yellow baby sweater.

  11. Ok, I too remember where & what - Nov. 22, 1963. I was coing up in an elevator in what was then Winnipeg General Hospital, from coffee break & the announcement came on the hospital PA system, that Pres. Kennedy had died. Although we are Canadian, it very much affected how we felt. Extremly SAD!
