HOW GRANDMOTHER OLIVE AND GRANDFATHER ALBERT ARE GETTING TO FLORIDA

I never thought of taking pictures of the trains that go through my town until Grandmother Olive mentioned Amtrak.  When she said that, I said I could take pictures of trains.  So I went down to one of the train crossings in my town and took pictures of the Amtrak Train plus other trains.  Amtrak Train comes through slower than it use to because of having hit a few cars at this crossing, but still they are faster than the freight trains that come through.  I believe the train that Grandmother Olive and Grandfather Albert will be on is longer than this one as more people are heading south than north.

  1. I've never been on an Amtrak train, but my husband and I are planning a short one day trip this summer to see what it's like.

  2. Good Morning Doreen,
I have never been on any train except a children's train or a park train. I would love to go on Amtrak, like you, to see what it is like. Use to have a friend of mine who was afraid to fly so she always took Amtrak and loved it.

  4. Good Morning Tom,
It sure was. I didn't know if I should put that picture on or not, but after thinking thought why not.

  5. I'm happy for Grandma Olive and Grandpa Albert going to Fla. Very loving of him to figure out a way for it to happen. I am another who hasn't been on Amtrak but hope to some day.

  7. Hi, I've been on Amtrak a number of times-mostly to NYC. I think it was 2007, Valentines Day Blizzard. Coming back to Syracuse from NYC, spent 13 1/2hrs on the train to get home. Normally the trip is 6hrs. Memorable and then some. Happy trails ;)! Carol

  9. Another one who has not been on Amtrak. Here the trains run coal, and occasionally gravels, rails, spikes, cross ties, bosses, and then more coal. Once in a blue moon, we see coal mine timbers, but not often. Hope they have fun in Florida!

  10. Hi Annie,
Our trains don't run on coal anymore. They have engine. I wish I were rich, I would rent an Amtrak so we could all good on a ride. Dream on. Will see that Grandmother Olive and Grandfather Albert get your message.

  11. In Columbia, SC we have to go to the Amtrak Depot here in town and take a shuttle bus to Florence, SC to catch the train. Never been on Amtrak but as a kid (many years ago!)I rode the train from Mobile to Montgomery. My favorite aunt picked me up and from there we'd go to her home in Verbena, AL. I loved that time in the country and on farms.

  12. There was a scheduled time for dining. My seat mate+I went to dining car. That of course was early on in the trip. Beyond that there were slow downs, stops, delays etc, which any one with a brain should understand because of the storm intensifying. The staff tried to keep all informed as to our progress as we pretty much "ambled" our way to Syracuse. Got in at 5:30am having left PennStation at 4pm Valentines Day. Thank goodness I had some protein bars and bottled water with me. Amtrak did the best they could under quite difficult circumstances. Carol

  13. Hi Carol in SC,
You are one of the few on here that have been in a train. It rounds like you had a great trip. Country area is beautiful.

  14. Hi Carol,
It sounds that they were as good as they could be. Sure was a long trip that time. We don't think of trains having a hard time in the snow, but they do like everyone else.
