My red african violets finally came to life with flowers. I worried they wouldn't bloom, but they did. I also put more pictures of the blue and white africian violet. I am so thrilled they are still alive. Only water them on Saturdays, if they need it. All the rest of africian violets, died. These are the first I could get to live and I am thrilled.

Marilyn - You have done wonderfully with your violets! The lighter purple one looks like it may have two plant "crowns" in that pot.....a "two fer"! I have one like that and although it is not symmetrical in shape, the two crowns always seem to compete with each other to see who blooms the most.......Just remember, always water with room temperature water. The care that you have given these plants surely makes them look happy and healthy! In my experience, it seems that the violets with the purple flowers do the best. Enjoy - they are beautiful! Chris

ReplyDeleteI have to give thanks to Violet Barn in Naples, NY for them coming out so well. When I bought them, I called down there and asked "Ma" (I am old enough to be her mother) what to do. On the blue one she thinks I should take some of those large edge leaves off. She said it will help it grow flowers better. But she said not to let those beautiful leaves go to waste. She told me how to put them in water until they got roots and then plant them in soil. I am afraid. She told me if I was that afraid to bring it to her and she would do it. I haven't done it. I will have to remember to use room temperature water. Have been taking it right from the sink. So far by blue ones have done the best, but I got them both in July, I think. Hope they last for a long time.

I have had a dark red flowered one for about 10 years. It blooms every spring. I used to have a light pink one with white splotched leaves. That was gorgeous!
