JEAN HAS BEEN WITH US 5 YEARS

I thought I would answer some of your questions today.

One of the questions asked was: Do the Old Order Mennonite read English and Deitsch?  Yes, we do.  Most of what we read from the world are in English.  We have Bibles in our home in Deitsch and in English.  Some material that is published by Amish or Mennonite is in Deitsch.  Also, when we write letters to other Old Order Mennonite, we do that in Deitsch.

It was that the children learned Deitsch and when they went to school learned to speak English.  Now, it is more common that children learn to speak both languages at home.  It is because we use both languages and the children hear and learn them.

Do the children go to private Mennonite Schools,  Yes, we have one room schools where our children go to school.  When the Amish first moved into our area, their children first went to our school.  But now, they have enough people moved in that they have built their own schools.

How many teachers do we have in our school?  We have one regular teacher.  If she needs help with some project, some of the students mothers will come in  and help.  Some of the schools have a teachers assistant.  She is a girl that has graduated from school and would like to be a teacher.  The assistant helps the teacher with teaching and projects at school.  At this time, we do not have an teacher's assistant, but the school board is considering it as the number of children has grown.

That is all the questions that I have right now.  If you have questions, please ask them.  Sometimes we don't what to talk about.

Thank you, again, for reading all the posts I have put on.

Be With God,
Jean

I had a long thank you on here, but Jean made me take it off.  Says she doesn't want any to do.  So, I will just say thank you, Jean, for the last five years.  I thank you for posts and being a great friend.

Thank you for this post about school. Do the teacher(s) ever get together for information/training sessions?
Are there ever new requirements as to what they must teach?
