SHORTSVILLE, NY - DOG PARK

The Village of Shortsville, NY decided they wanted and needed a dog run.  They had a campaign for donations.  When they didn't meet the money they wanted, they used the money where they had to, got  donated man (and woman) power and scraped up the rest to make this beautiful park.  The fence was being replaced by a near by town - so they got it for free, and cleaned it up.  It goes around the park.  Work they had hoped hired done was done by the Boy Scouts and people that donated their time and power.  It took them a few years, but they got the job down and they have a beautiful dog run.

Pictures one and two are two hand carved bear carved out of wood that are in the entrance to the dog run.  They were made and donated by one of the residents of Shortsville.

Pictures three and four are the entrance to the park.

The rest of the pictures are of the dog park.  In the park are places for us human's to sit, too.  Also shown are some of the signs that are in the park.  It is all fenced in so you dog can't run into the road. It is a rather large park. There is no charge for you or your dog.

I haven't taken Pierre there yet, but I hope to and hope we can bring one of his friends along, too.

That is very nice park and a great story about a community working together.

Very, very nice. Especially that is free! There is a dog park in nearby Milwaukee, I do not recall the charge but I was disappointed that there is a fee.

What a generous gift for the community and
how delighted must be the dogs who frequent it....

A good spot for a run!

The dog footprints in the pavement remind me of a monument here to animals in military service- dog footprints lead up to a life sized bronze German shepherd.

Hi Vickie,
Right now they are the only dog park in the United States that does not charge. They don't plan on starting. It's sad that most places have to charge for you or your dog.

Hi Heritage Hall,

It is a very generous gift to the community. What I like it is a good, safe place for dogs to run without worrying about them getting in the road.

Hi William,

That is a great honor for the human military but for the dog military, too.
