AMISH AND OLD ORDER MENNONITE BARN RAISING

When I got to Elmer's house on Friday, this is where he directed me to.  He had permission from Bishop Eli and Bishop Joseph for me to take pictures as long as I didn't have pictures where their faces would show - you could identify someone.  So after all the pictures were taken, Elmer, Anna and myself, went thought all the pictures on the camera.  Some of the men building here are Amish, some are Old Order Mennonite.  The people I know that helped are Elmer and Anna's son, John, Jean's sons Michael and Thomas.  What surprised me is the machine here that is helping them.  Elmer said, as long as the person driving the machine is not Amish or Old Order Mennonite, they can use them.  Hope you enjoy the pictures of the barn raising.

  1. Marilyn, Wow, I am impressed with the size of this structure. Amazing how many hands can make a project like this go quickly. Thank you for sharing, oh and tell Elmer he made me laugh with his explanation of "courting buggy". Hope you have a wonderful day. Cathy in Webster

  2. Good morning, Marilyn. Another WOW here! How long did it take to get it finished? I like the one you have of the horses next to the project...the old and the new together...both have a place. Have a great day!

  3. Good Morning Carol and Angela,
It is a big barn. There were about 8 of them working on it. I don't know when they finished it because when I went by it on Sunday, it still needed some work done. I have a lot more pictures of the horses. They will probably be another post, sometime.

I took pictures of them working on the barn when I first got there. Then we would go taking pictures of other things and come back, where I would take more pictures. Off, we would go taking pictures of other places and come back to take more barn pictures.

  4. Hi Marilyn, I'm sure you have already thanked Bishops Eli and Joseph for allowing you to take pics of the barn raising for NYSofMind, but when you see them again, please add my "thank you" also. Also to Elmer for having prepared the way ahead of time for you to be able to do the photo shoot and share it all here.
Many hands certainly do make light work! Blessings to all, Carol

  7. Good Morning Vickie,

So glad you liked the pictures. I have been wanting to take pictures of a barn raising for a long time.

I am feeling a lot better, but still get the panic attack on and off.

    Hugs to Mable and Henry,

  11. Good morning Marilyn,
Getting caught up here while traveling. This barn raising is very impressive. The cyclists have a nice route to follow. Jean's beet recipe sounds good and I like beets. I hope all is going well with you and Pierre. Hugs to you both.
