AMISH AUCTION IN CLARE, MICHIGAN
Carol Lee, one of our viewers sent these pictures of the Amish Auction in Clare, Michigan. In 1984 he started the Amish Consignment Auction and Flea Market on his Herrick Road Farm. There were between 35 and 45 booths that first year said his son Norm Yoder in an earlier interview. The auction featured about four horses and a dozen quilts. From that simple start the event started to grow by leaps and bounds. The Clare Retailers even got into the act and convinced the Clare County Transit to run shuttle buses from the city to the Herrick Road event. Just a few years ago it had grown into a hudge weekend event featuring 400 to 500 venders and bringing thousands into the community.
The two wall hangings are 13" by 16" are made by the same person each year. Carol Lee read in the Budget last year that one sold for $725.00 and had 638 pieces.
The outhouse got blown off of the foundation during a windstorm last year.
The auction is in May and September. People can rent a space and park their RV's there for the auction.
Thank you Carol Lee so very much for sending these pictures. If anyone else has pictures, they would like to share with us - just let me know.
...neat to see.
