HAPPY FIFTH BIRTHDAY - NYSOM
Happy Fifth Birthday for New York State of Mind. It hardly seems that we have been on that long. The picture above is the picture that was on the first post five years ago.
I would like to thank Jean, David, Michael, Edward, Thomas, Elmer, Anna, Bishop Joseph, Martha, Bishop Eli, Grandmother Olive, Grandfater Albert, Porter and all the others that have given of their time to give posts on here. If I have left anyone out I am sorry.
Also want to thank all of you that read NewYork State of Mind and some make comments. I reallly appreciate that. We have been through a lot of good things and some not so good things especially lately this year. I thank you for all for your prayers, cards, thoughts and more. You have all been so kind to me. Also, I thank those that sent pictures to put on here - I really appreciate them. Also, if anyone has them, I would be glad to put them on here.
We have decided of someone else to put items on New York State of Mind or at least tell you if I am laid up, again. It will John and Dottie who are drives for Elmer, Anna and the other Amish around when they need it.
Monday starts year six. I hope you will enjoy this year and continue to keep coming.
Bless you all,
Marilyn

JEAN'S NOT SO GOOD NEWS
Many of you asked why Michael did not let people know how Marilyn was doing while she was in the hospital and afterward. Well, Michael has gone to the ways of the world many ways we do not approve of.
He has moved from the apartment he had into a house with another fellow. They have parties in the house to all hours. We know there is alchol in the building and we don't know what other. One day when we were away, Michael and some friends came and removed as many of Michael's tools that he could. He now works in another building in back of the house he is living in.
David and I, and Bishop Joseph have spoke to him about his ways. Michael will not listen, Michael says he loves us, but just can't go our ways of driving buggies, farming, and staying in our backward ways. Even Elmer got angry with him, when he didn't show up for a job. Elmer found him working in that building behind that house. I guess they had go arounds in voice, but Elmer made Michael come with him and do the promised job he had told Elmer he would do. Then Elmer told him in the Amish World, Mennonite World or English World, you do the job you promise you will. Michael wanted to know how to put siding on houses. Elmer taught him. Elmer told Michael he better do what he promises because he is not only protecting his own reputation but Elmer's, too.
Michael doesn't want to work on repairing farm equipment. He wants to put siding on houses like Elmer and work repairing cars. Now that he has his drivers license, he wants to get out to see more of the world.
One evening he came and asked if we would give him the money instead of the land we have for him to build his house on. David said no. Michael got very upset, and used bad language. David asked what he wanted the money for. Michael said to get away from here.
It is upseting the whole family. Thomas said to give him some time. Edward is all upset because are they not only adopted brothers, they are the best of friends - and growing apart. David and I think Margaret is glad she is over at Thomas and Ruth's right now. The little ones know something is not right and it upsets them.
Bishop Joseph is upset as Michael is not listeing to us or him. He, like us, feel that Michael will go into a lifestyle that will do him more harm than good. Michael is not reading the bible or going the ways he should.
Bishop Joseph asked Bishop Eli what he thought. Bishop Eli told of how one of his brother's went away for years, but came back. That was years ago. Now, his brother is Amish and has a wife and family. But, he is not tell Bishop Joseph what to do except pray and let Michael know he can come back anytime.
Elmer and Anna are wondering if Michael will come to their annual birthday party on October 31st. Elmer and Michael enjoyed that a great deal, When Elmer asked Michael, he didn't say much. Anna says she will plan on it.
So, as you can see, our family is upet now. David said, although he doesn't agree, he can see Michael going to the world. But not the way he is going. If he was going to a more progressive Mennonite, he could understand, but this not going to any church, living the wicked ways of the world will not lead Michael into the correct life.
Be With God,
Jean
Please remember the people of Las Vegas is your prayers.
Sorry for puting this on late. I set the time wrong.
