FIELDS IN SNOW

Elmer asked to put on pictures of the fields in the winter.  I guess I always show them in spring, summer and fall, but never under snow.  So at Elmer's request, here are the pictures.

We have someone putting on Monday's post that we know, but has never put a post on before.  Michael says we should get someone  different on here every once in a while to make this more interesing and I agree.  I never thought to ask this person to put on a post, but Michael did.

CHRISTINE'S PICTURES

Christine, one of our views, sent us these beautiful pictures.  The barn is in western Pa. Note the sign on the barn. The waterfall is the Patterson Greatfalls in Patterson, N.J.  The morning glory was in her backyard in New Jersey and the mountain is in western Pennsylvania.

I thank Christine for sending us these pictures.

If you have pictures that you would like on here, please let me know.  Think we would all be interested in other parts of the country and world.  Just e-mail me: lincolnlady1121@yahoo.com

JEAN'S PINEAPPLE - PUDDING SALAD

Seeing that it is spring - at least on the calendar - I thought I would put on a spring recipe.  This recipe was given to me by a friend.  It was a big hit in our house and hope it is one in yours.  Jean

JEAN'S PINEAPPLE-PUDDING SALAD

1 16 ounce can crushed pineapple, including the juice (fresh pineapple may also be used)
1 3 ounce package instant pistachio pudding
1 9 ounce container Cool Whip
1 cup minature marshmallows

In a large bowl, mix the pineapple and juice with the pistachio pudding.  Add the Cool Whip and marshmallows.  Mix well and refrigerate for several hours.

ELMER'S POST FROM PINECRAFT

This map gives you an idea of where Pinecraft is in relationship to the city of Sarasota.  Pinecraft takes up some space and is still growing.  There is a hotel going up near here.

Since we have been here, Eli and I have not been allowed to do any work.  Fanny and Olive said that they always find some work for us to do when we are here - but not this time.  No painting.  No refinishing.  No fixing.  No nothing.  They had Amos and Albert go over everything to make sure nothing was wrong with anything while we are here.  In a way that is good.  In a way, we feel that we have nothing to do while we are down here.  Like we should be doing something for them.

Well, I guess we have been.  Eli and I have been playing chess, playing suffleboard, walking around taking to people and alike.  Eli, Emma, Fanny, Amos, Olive, Albert, Anna and I have gone to the benefit dinners and music they have.  Also, we all like to walk down to the ice cream stand in the evening.  Of course, we have gone to some of the local stores shopping.  They are having a bus trip to the Kennedy Space center, which Eli, Emma, Anna and I are thinking of going on.

We are so glad that Anna can walk this time.  Last year she had the electric chair.  The electric chair was great sometimes, but other times it was a problem.  We took over Albert and  Olive's cottage last year because it was the easiest place to get the chair in and out of.

Back home Sunday church is held in someone's home every other Sunday.  Down here, we attend church every Sunday in an Amish church.  There is also a Mennonite Church here, too.

The ladies have been cooking, talking and working on a quilt.  I asked if it was the same one from last year and Fanny said no rather tartly.  I must admitt we are eating very well down here.  When Anna heard me say the last statement she asked if I wasn't eating well at home?  I think I got myself in trouble.  Anna is a great cook, no doubt about it.  But, while here, we are eating someone else's cooking most of the time.

Called home to find out how everything is going and was told not to worry.  Everything is just fine.  Stop worrying about things.  Enjoy ourselves. Eli got the same response when he called home.

I guess that's all the news, we have this week.

Trust God's Wisdom ,
Elmer

MARILYN'S MESSAGE

I learned something in getting my computer and phone changed over to Spectrum (Time Warner).  If you live in an apartment complex that gets a discount on your cable tv from Spectrum or any other company - check on your phone and computer, too.

When I started getting prices for my telephone and computer at Spectrum, I explained that I already had their cable tv.  I got three different prices from three different people.  Was almost at the point of cancelling when I got the fourth lady.

She explained to me that when you call, you should ask for bulk accounting.  I never heard of such a place. We are owned by Conifer Corporation who owns several apartment complexs in New York State and other states.  Spectrum offers a cable discount on all of Conifer apartments not only ours, but all the others, at least in New York State.  When Spectrum (Time Warner) offers a discount on the cable, they offer a discount on the phone and computer, too.  Bulk Accounting handles those.

So I got transfered to Bulk Accounting, they got the Conifer contract on their computer and told me that I can get a discount on my phone and computer.  The price they gave me was substancially less than the price the other sales people gave me.  I had no idea they offered this discount.  No other sales person at Spectrum told me except the last lady.

So if you live in an apartment complex and get a discount on your cable, check on telephone and computer, too.  Maybe there is a discount there you don't know about.  This discount is not just available to Conifer Corporation, but a lot of other apartment complexes.

But, make sure, you speak to the Bulk Accounting Department.

Now I hope, when I get my bill, it is as low as they said it would be.  They said, I would get my first bill in two weeks.  Just wanted to pass this information on to you.

Hope you have a great weekend,
Marilyn

GOD'S CREATURE'S - THE CARDINAL

During the snow storm, there wasn't much getting out taking pictures, so I took pictures of birds and squirrels through my window.  I can't believe I got these pictures of the Cardinal.  Most of them were taken during the snow storm.  The last two were taken last Sunday.

Marilyn's Message - Again !!!! TWO POSTS TODAY

My telephone and computer are on Verizon.  Well, I got an e-mail notice on March 21 st, they were no longer handling e-mail.  Thinking this was one of those prank things, I called Verizon and found they weren't kidding and this was no joke.  I am shocked they would do something like this.

After talking with Verizon and listening to their choices. I contacted my computer lady and asked her what she thought.  So after going back and forth, we decided that I should leave Verizon and go to Spectrum (formerly Time Warner).

My cable TV has been with Spectrum ( Time Warner), since shortly after I moved in here.  Our apartments has a deal with them, so we get it less expensive than the average person would in their home. Now my computer and telephone will also be with them.

So Friday, March 24th, between the hours of 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM Spectrum will come to my apartment and change me over.  I don't know how long the change will take.

For those of you that have my telephone number, it will remain the same. If you must contact me by telephone that day, I would advise you to call my cell phone.  My computer e-mail will change.  If you must get to me during that day, please try to contact me at: lincolnlady1121@Yahoo.com

I will let you know when things are back in order.  I hope they get it all together on Friday as I don't want to have any problems over the weekend.

Just wanted you to know about this in case you should try to contact me or I don't answer your comments or e-mails.

There are two posts on today - another one before this one.

Blessings to you and yours,
Marilyn

SNOW IN OUR TOWN

Here is what I was going to put on Saturday.  The top picture is a street in our town. Pictures two and three are of a typical house burried in snow. Fourth picture is of our Main Street through my windshield.  Next my car after it got dug out. The snow in our back yard is the next.  Then there is the back walkway and the front so you can see how deep the snow is.  Sun came on and melted the snow off my car.

THERE ARE TWO POSTS TODAY.  THE OTHER IS BEFORE THIS ONE.

ELMER TELLS OF TRIP TO FLORIDA

Because of the impending snow storm, Eli and I decided we should go to Rochester and get a hotel or motel room on Monday as our train was leaving on Tuesday, which we did.  We got there early, so we went to lunch and left our luggage at the desk.  When we returned our luggage was in our room.  We spent most of the afternoon reading, talking and praying that we would have a good safe trip.

At dinner time, we went to the restaurant for dinner and came back to our room.  We were just about to settle in for the evening when we got a telephone call from Amtrak asking if we could go on the train that night instead of tomorrow.  To make a long story short, they were putting on another car and everybody that they could get out of Rochester on Monday evening, they wanted them out before the storm started.  While Eli was speaking with Amtrak, Porter called me on my cell phone and told me about the same thing.  So we packed up, got a cab to Amtrak and got on the train to New York City. We paid for a hotel room we never slept in.

We were surprised at how many people were at Amtrak when we got there.  They were worried that the trains may be cancelled tomorrow due to the snow.  We got on the train and went to New York City.  Ususally, when we make the Rochester to New York City trip, we have to wait several hours for our next train, but not this time.  The train was there, we checked in, found our sleeping cars - we were right across from each other.  The train was there another hour, or hour and a half before it left.

When we got settled in, Eli and Emma came over to our car and we were about to start our prayers when there was a knock at the door.  We opened and there was a Porter with tea and snacks for us all.  We thanked him, but didn't order it.  This Porter got a smile and said a friend of yours sent it down.  We knew who it was - our friend Porter.  The gentleman that came to our door was in training for Porter.  Our friend Porter knowing we were on, sent the tea and snacks down.  We were told we would see him the next day.  The tea hit the spot on all of us.  With the train ride and all, we didn't get to bed until around 2:00 AM.

In the morning, we woke up later than we usually do, and went for breakfast.  When we got back our sleeping car was all fixed up for the day.  Mid-morning Porter came to welcome us and chat with us for a while.  He said he thought we were going to be stopped somewhere along the way as the snow was getting worse, but not to worry as we would stay on the train - all our meals would go on, we could walk around the train, etc. except we wouldn't be moving.  Porter's word came true as we pulled into the train station near Washington, D.C. and stopped.  They didn't know how long we were going to be there.  We could get off the train if we wanted to but we decided to stay where we were.  With all the snow coming down, we didn't want to go out in it.  All we could wonder was how things were going at home.

We stopped there on Tuesday and didn't move until Thursday almost at noon time.  Our train was not the only one there.  We did got off once to tour the train station, get some reading material at the store there along with a couple of items we forgot but that was it.  Of course, we had to call ahead and tell our driver that we wouldn't be there and to arrange  another day and time. Also, Eli called his parents to tell them what happened and we would be late.  We did have a good time talking and praying with Porter, when he got the chance to stop in.

Finally pulled into Florida on Friday.  Our driver was there to meet us and drive us to Pinecraft.  Amos, Fanny, Albert and Olive were there to greet us when we arrived.  Our cabin was already for us when we arrived.  Eli and Emma went to stay with his parents in their cabin.  We rested most of the day and had dinner at Albert and Olive's.

The first day, we kind of rested.  We did go for a walk and visited with Eli's parents and Albert and Olive.  Dinner that night was at Amos and Fanny's.  Now we are getting into more activities and walking more places.  Eli is again trying to talk us into buying the cabin we are in.  Like, we always do, Anna and I talk about it, but I don't know.  It's hard to think of retirement.

We heard how bad it was back home.  Eli and I had so much help from family, church members and friends.  We couldn't help saying, we did pick a good time to leave.

Trust God's Wisdom,
Elmer

WE ARE RECOVERING - MARCH 16, 2017

Some of these pictures were taken through my car window so they are not the best.  The first four pictures show the work of the DPW.  Five and Six are of the height of the snow.  The next three show where they dump all the snow - down on the edge of the Erie Canal.  The last picture is of my car somewhat cleaned off.  I have more pictures for Saturday.
