HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE

Hope everyone had a nice evening last night.  I went to a small party across the street and was home by 10:00.  Pierre and I watched TV until midnight.  I wished Pierre a Happy New Year and we went to bed.   So we didn't do anything really exciting.

If you told me last  year at this time that I would have a blog like New York State of Mind, I would have told you, you were nuts, but here it is.  Again, I thank Richard, for this.

Just thought I would tell you a little about what I plan on coming up.  As you know Jean will be on Monday, recipe on Wednesday and I will try to have a post on every Friday. Jean's first on Monday will be of the Old Order Mennonite school that Susan attends.  I will have more pictures of it on Friday.  I know Martha, when filling in for Jean plans on one post about how their young people court  and one on Kevin and Bridget's wedding, which happens to be today.

I not only plan on having posts, on Friday, of the Amish and Mennonite, but also other things of this area.  Amish and Mennonite will be my main posts,  also I will have posts of a restaurant, one of the religions that was founded in our area, and I have a few other things in my mind that I think you might be interested in.  Oh, I will let Pierre on every once in a while so he can have his say, too.

Comments mean a lot to Jean.  If she doesn't get a lot of comments she feels that no one is interested in her posts.  As Michael and Edward go to a public school, they know about computers.  We have all tried to explain to her that just because people don't leave comments doesn't mean people don't read it.   Tried as we may, we can't get her to understand that.  So please leave a comment when you read Jean's posts.  We don't want Jean to leave us.

So I hope you enjoy New York State of Mind in 2013.

Marilyn

P.S. I forgot to ask if everyone liked Jean's recipes at Christmas time and would you like something like that again?

Hi Fionalina,
If it doesn't work out, I will have to call Richard in. Thank you for telling me about the recipes. Jean and I were trying to decide about them. The moving is coming at Jean's, but she and her family are at Kevin and Bridget's wedding today. I told her they needed a break. Only two more weeks to get out of the house.

Fionalina,
I just e-mailed Richard to see what he has to say. I don't know if he is on the computer or not. He knows a lot more about this than I do.

Happy New Years folks, and Fionalina I'm not sure what the issue is but I think its on your end since everyone seems to be able to post their comments on Marilyn's blog so far without a hitch.

I would at times have some folks tell me that they were having problems posting a comment on my own blog, yet myself and others had no problem. It could be blogger themselves perhaps so there is nothing a blogger can do really, but at least your able to post your comments even if it is under "anonymous".

And I can also say with some experience regarding comments on Jeans posts, if you guys really want to still have Jean posting on the internet I would try and post either a short comment or a question for her.

I know myself that if I was taking the time to post a story about my life for that week and only one or two posted a comment I would re-think about even doing it, since I am only a part-time blogger and I'm not that concerned about comments on my own blog I can say that now!

Well lecture over and everyone enjoy their week. Richard

Marilyn,
Please, please tell Jean that lots of people read but do not comment. It may be shyness or a fear of the actual commenting that may frighten people. I was very unsure of commenting but after awhile, it comes just like making conversation to a friend only through the blogging world. It gets better as you get to know your blogging readership, and I have many readers on my blog, and a few comments, but it doesn't mean no one cares to read or take interest in what she has to say. I thought my blog was the most boring, dull one around, I live in a very trashy trailer park, but I talk about living better and trying to deal with stresses that all of us, including Jean deal with, only I think that her life if much better and more fulfilling.

New York State Of Mind said...

Thank you, Richard. I didn't know if that was mine or not. I know at times I have had that happen on someone else's blog including Amish Stories. It seems it goes that way and day and then works the next. Also, thank you for telling about Jean's comments-it is really appreciated. Happy New Year.

Thank you for commenting deminflyz. I was just to your blog and I enjoy it-maybe because I use to live in a mobile home-many years ago. I will tell Jean what you said, but she is very hard to convince. Jean sometimes she thinks she is telling us the same old story. Getting her to understand computer and when I show her stat-which shows how many people read-it still bothers her. Thank you so much. I will tell Jean waht you said.
Happy New Year,
Marilyn

Happy New Year! I really enjoyed reading Amish Stories and am so glad it will continue on this blog!

Happy New Year Chasity,
I enjoyed Amish Stories, too. Thank you for coming to New York State of Mind.

One more thing before I sign off my computer, I agree with deminflyz that comments alone are not the total reflection of how many folks are reading a particular post.

That information can be easily found by checking your blog hits through Google, but I have to say since Jean being on Marilyn's blog and because she is old order Mennonite that to me makes all of her post's that are published very special.

So Jean to me is something very unique and something you wont find on anyone's blog (to my knowledge), and because of that rarity I would hope that her posts would get a fair amount of comments.

That’s my 2 cents anyway folks, and that’s how I've always seen Jeans post's when she was on my own blog. Good night everyone......... Richard

Happy New Year

Please let Jean know I enjoy reading what she has to say about her life their beliefs.

It helps me and I imagine it helps others reading it as well

I look forward to reading what she has to say and while I do not leave comments I will try and do so

We never know how the Lord is using us to reach some one else who may searching

Blessings

Thank you Richard for your two cents. I really appreciate them very much. Jean has thought of leaving a couple of times because the comments were down and she thought people weren't interested. So we really need those posts.

Hello Wendy,
Happy New Year to you and yours. I really appreciate your comments. To some people, I know comments are hard, but if we want Jean to stay, we have to have comments on her posts. You are so kind st leave comments.

I'm not much of a 'commenter' but will try to improve. I do enjoy reading about Jean and the 'doings' of others.
Just a side note, my husband and I will be married 60 years tomorrow, 2nd of Jan. I must admit, I was very, very young at the time. lol

I just finished talking with Martha. She gave me the post for January 14th on Kevin and Bridget's wedding. She got home and was so excited she had to tell someone, so she called me and I got it for New York State of Mind. I think she is going tell about courting or something else-I'm not sure. I think you will like the post of the wedding.

Please tell Jean that the lack of comments does not necessarily mean the lack of interest. I have read the Amish Stories blog for a long time and never left a comment, but I sure saved a lot of recipes and enjoyed every thing she said. I'm sure I'll do the same thing here. I seldom comment on a blog, but I sure have to read my favorite ones every evening.

Happy New Year.
I have a question, perhaps Jean or Martha could answer, although it is not recipe related.
How do the old order Mennonites and Amish keep their stock tanks and chickens waters from freezing? I asked this of a Amish penpal of mine, but she lives south, so freezing water is rarely an issue for them. Thanks!! Later this week I pan on making that turkey pie.

New York State Of Mind said...

Happy New Years Lowell,
I have explained that to Jean as have Michael and Edward, but she still feels that if she doesn't have comments, no one is interested. I am glad you read the posts, even though you don't comment.
Marilyn

New York State Of Mind said...

Happy New Year April,
I have written the question for Martha or Jean, I am sure Jean will like you are making the turkey pie. Jean's grandmother is going to give a post on wood burning stoves. She is trying to talk Jean into putting one along with her electric stove in her new house. Her grandmother is not happy that Jean uses a coleman stove and bar-b-que when the power goes off. I laughed so hard when she told me that. Her grandmother said she has to teach Jean how to use a wood burning stove if she gets one in the new house.

Hello Marilyn,
I am enjoying your blog! And happy that Jean is here too! I've loved reading how she and her family have taken in these two young men that might have slipped through the cracks, and given them a good home. Please tell her also that I took her recipes for Christmas Carrots and Lemon Butter Snow Bars with me when we traveled to my daughters for Christmas. Both were enjoyed! (Except one grandson who doesn't like carrots. lol)
Pierre is gorgeous!
Even though I now live in southern TN, I'm originally from Broome counth, NY and have family and friends in Rochester and Lakeport...so I'm somewhat familiar with your area.
I look forward to checking your blog every couple of days. :)

Happy New Year! Congratulations to Kevin and Bridget. Please tell Jean that I have read and enjoyed all of her posts, but I have only commented once or twice. I will try to improve in 2013 ;). My family is Russian Mennonite and I live in California (I have an aunt who is from an Old Order family in Ohio).

Happy New Year to you and yours Michelle. Ibwill tell Martha your Congratulations on Kevin and Bridget. I will tell Jean about your Russian Mennonite and your Old Order Mennonite aunt. That is very interesting. If you can, comments would be appreciated for Jean's posts. Her next post will be on Monday, January 8th.

I was going to put on another post this morning, but I can't get my pictures to come up. During a snow storm I lost the internet and I don't whether that had something to do with it or not. As Richard, set the blog up, I am going to wait and see if he can fix it or know what I should do. Jean's post for Monday, her recipe and my post on next Friday are ready to come on with all the pictures, so I don't have to worry for over a week. If I get the pictures to come I will put on a post for the weekend. If I don't then we will wait for Jean's on Monday.

I saw your email this afternoon Marilyn so I've sent you a note back on how to fix this. Your using Microsoft Explorer which does not work well with Blogger, so maybe since Google owns Blogger they want all of the bloggers who use it to use Chrome when putting together a post.

I had to download this over a year ago to make my own blog work correctly when adding images and adjusting setting's, and I think most of the folks who have blogs will also agree. Richard

New York State Of Mind said...

Will do. I got them on for the post above, but then I have to go through the same process everytime to get the pictures. I am doing something wrong, Richard.
