FLAG DAY - JUNE 14, 2013

I AM THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
By Howard Schnauber

I am the flag of the United States of America.
My name is "Old Glory".
I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.
Look up and see me.

I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
I stand for freedom.
I am confident.
I am arrogant.
I am proud.

When I am flown with my fellow banners,
My head is a little higher,
My colors a little truer.

I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world.
I am worshipped -- I am saluted.
I am loved -- I am revered.
I am respected -- and I am feared.

I have fought in every battle of every war
for more then 200 years.
I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg,
Shiloh and Appomattox.
I was there at San Juan Hill,
the trenches of France,
in the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome
and the beaches of Normandy, Guam,
Okinawa, Korea, and Vietnam.
I was there. I led my troops.
I was dirty, battle-weary and tired,
but my soldiers cheered me
And I was proud.

I have been burned, torn and trampled
on the streets of countries I have helped set free.
It does not hurt, for I am invincible.

I have been soiled upon, burned, torn
and trampled on the streets of my country.
And when it's by those whom I've served in battle -- it hurts.
But I shall overcome -- for I am strong.

I have slipped the bonds of Earth
and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space
from my vantage point on the moon.
I have borne silent witness
to all of America's finest hours.
But my finest hours are yet to come.

When I am torn into strips
and used as bandages
for my wounded comrades on the battlefield,
When I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldier,
Or when I lie in the trembling arms
of a grieving parent at the grave of their fallen son or daughter,
I am proud.

MY NAME IS "OLD GLORY".
LONG MAY I WAVE.
DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN,
LONG MAY I WAVE.

TOMORROW WILL BE A POST ON MY CHRISTIAN PRAYER SHAWL, ALONG WITH SHAWL HISTORY, PATTERNS AND MORE.

So happy that you like it, Vickie. I liked the little boy carrying the flag the best. He was in the Memorial Day parade and I wasn't sure he was going to make it all the way - he was so small and flag so big-but he did. He carried that flag through the whole parade.

Have a Happy Flag Day,
Marilyn

I plan on going to the Haiti Auction in Penn Yan, NY tomorrow. I was waiting for payment from someone that purchased something from me on etsy and they did. It was a first time customer and he didn't understand how to do it so we had some problems and I wasn't sure if his payment would arrive in time, but it did. So unless something comes up in the next 24 hours. I am going to Penn Yan tomorrow.

What a great post Marilyn. It gives me goosebumps to read it. Have a great time at the auction, and I'm looking forward to seeing the Prayer Shawl and reading the history.

Good Morning Doreen,
Mean's a lot that people like it. I didn't want people to forget the flag especially today. The shawl post will be on tomorrow. My shawl is white so the pictures are so so. Everyone will know about the auction, when I get back.

Thank you for today's post. I put the flag out every morning unless it rains. It isn't an all weather flag.
God Bless our country, it is the best.
Have a great time tomorrow at the auction.

Hi Jodie,

At our apartment complex we have our flag up every day unless the weather is really bad. Ours is an all weather, ,but the manager doesn't like it up in bad wind where it could get damaged.

I had a friend of mine who was born in Cuba and said that the people in this country don't know how well they have it. After having been in a few foreign countries in my day, he was right.

Hi Everyone,
I plan to be off early tomorrow to the Haiti auction. I don't know when I will be back. I have a sitter for Pierre while I am gone. My Christian Shawl will be on tomorrow.
