JEAN'S FRIENDSHIP CAKE

Someone asked for this recipe a while ago, maybe on Amish Stories and I am just getting it around.  We have made this in our home and really enjoyed it.  Hope you do too.
Be with God,
Jean

FRIENDSHIP CAKE

Starter:
1 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 c. milk

Mix together.  Cover.  (I use a freezer plastic bag for this.  I don't put it in the freezer or refrigerator). Let stand at room temperature for five days.  Then begin process.

Day 1 Keep covered. Don't refrigerate.
Day 2, 3, 4 Stir each day
Day 5 Add 1 c, each: flour, sugar, milk
Day 6, 7, 8, 9 Stir each day
Day 10 Add 1 c, each: flour, sugar, milk

Take 3 cups from base and give one cup to each up to each of 3 friends with instructions.

To remaining batter add:

2/3 c. oil
1/2 t salt
1 c sugar
2 t vanilla
1 c nuts, raisins and apples or chocolate chips
1 1/2 t cinnamon
1 1/2 t baking soda
2 c flour
2 t baking powder

Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes in greased bundt pan.

Oh yes! I have owned this. =) In college. It helped fill my tummy when I did not have much money.

Right now, I am not sure if I will be able to go to the Haiti Auction on Saturday or not. I would really like to go. Am trying to scrape enough finances together to go. Will let you know if I can go or not.

Another interesting recipe. I didn't know that you could leave something that has milk in it, un-refrigerated for 5 days.

I hope you'll be able to go to the auction Marilyn. I talked to my friend in Penn Yan, and she said that she's going for a while. I hope you'll take pictures if you can.

Hello Doreen,
Jean and another friend of mine make this recipe and leave it un-refrigerated.

I hope things work out that I can go. I really want to take pictures to put on here, if they allow me. If I get a check that is in the mail there will be no problem.

"tsp" is etc..

Gary- the small "t" is teaspoon...an upper case "T" is tablespoon- "tsp" is abbreviation for teaspoon, Tbls, would be for tablespoon.

The milk "sours", the flour thickens, and increases volume, and the sugar is a preservative....and gives the sour milk and flour something to feed on..."sour dough".
