LAUNDRY DAY AT AMISH AND MENNONITE HOMES

Took all these pictures except one while I was driving around the same day I got the pictures for the previous Spring in Old Order Mennonite Area post.  The top picture I took a while ago while driving around the Lyons,NY Amish and Mennonite area.  I wish we still had it so I could hang my clothes up outside to let them dry. There's something about that fresh smell and soft feel that a dryer just can't give you.

ANOTHER HAITI BENEFIT POST ON TOMORROW.

KEVIN ON ABOUT OKLAHOMA ON MONDAY.

LEAVE QUESTIONS FOR OLIVE REGARDING CANNING ON ANY OF THE POSTS.

I like pictures of clothes on the line. I often take pictures when we are in an Amish area.
In fact I'm going out in a minute to hang out my sheets. I seldom use my dryer.

very pretty photos!
I use my line all the time, could not do without unless I had too. looking forward to reading more of your posts. ask the ladies how they get their whites to look so very white, mine tend to go gray way too early. I can't use bleach,my husband is allergic, and non-chlorine bleach does not work well with out town water. thanks have a great weekend!

@Annie...perhaps try to Washing Soda? I believe you add it to the load along with the detergent but check the box; it will "soften" hard water so the detergents can work better.

And speaking of clotheslines...I have to replace one of mine because I had it "dropped" and forgot about it when I was mowing the lawn :D

Hi Everyone,

Had trouble with the computer, but it is working fine now. I don't know what I did, but it worked.

Thank you for the comments. Matt, thank you for the help for Annie.

Wish we had clothes lines here, but we are not allowed to have them. Love the smell of clothes hung out on the line.

I recently went to some museums and asked if I could come back and take pictures of them for New York State of Mind. The people that showed me through didn't think that was allowed, but advised me to contact the head of their organization who just happened to be a friend of mine. She said that usually that was not allowed, but she would allow me to come in take pictures. So we are trying to arrange a time that is convenient for her and myself. Some of the displays in the museums are changed from time to time. I think you will find them interesting.

Hello Veronica.
Thank you for the compliments. Glad you liked the posts. We may start writing the canning posts this week as I can only work on them on weekends. Olive said the first would be what you need for canning and the basic do's and don't. After that she will go through the different cannings-she even has one I never heard of.

I hang outside when the weather is good..and in the winter, and on rainy days, I have a drying rack...in the winter..I put it by the wood stove to dry....White vinegar also works well....for the hard water problems, as does Borax.

Thank you SueAnn. I have a drying rack too for inside my apartment. Thank you for telling us about the white vinegar.
