A FRIEND OF ELMER'S AND ANNA'S FARM

Elmer directed me to this farm.  The people that own this are close friends of Elmer and Anna's.  The people gave me permission to take pictures of the their house and farm.  While I was taking pictures Elmer, Anna and their friends were in the room on the left side of their home with the windows.  Elmer said to note in picture three that power line comes from the road to pole and from the pole to the barn but NOT to the house.  New York State law is if you have milk cows you must have electric in your barn to run the milk vat.  Of course, most of the Amish, use electric milkers. I asked Elmer's friends if they wanted to see the pictures after I took them.  They didn't care.  I showed them to them to make sure they approved them.  Really, I think they looked at them to make sure I didn't have their faces in them.  Anyway, they approved the pictures.  They laughed that I took pictures of their wash on the line.

Wow, what a beautiful (and large) home and barn. They have such a big operating farm. I'm not used to seeing Amish property that's so modern since the Amish in my area have farms that look quite different. it's very impressive.

I would laugh if someone took pictures of my laundry too.

Hi Doreen,

That is one of the biggest farms that I have seen in this area. It does look so modern.

I guess it is funny that I wanted I picture of their laundry.

Hi Marilyn, Nice pics! How thoughtful of Elmer+Anna to share their close friends with you+your readers. They certainly are quite a couple, aren't they! Enjoy the day before you with The Lord's blessing. Carol

Hi Marilyn,
Many conservative Amish have moved to New York State because of it's liberal milk regulations. In Conewango New York Amish farmers milk by hand and sell grade 2 milk to the local cheese plant. In Angelica New York they milk by hand and put their milk in cans and then drive it by horse to a separate milk house that has electric powered refrigerated milk tanks. This is a more labor intensive way of doing things, but it is the Amish way. Have a nice weekend.

Hi Tom,
I haven't been over to the area you mention, but I want to go. Also, I know that the Amish that moved into Jean and David's old house milk their cows by hand. Elmer milks his my automatic milkers. The two different farmers live about 5 miles apart. I know some Amish are more conservative than others.

Thanks for your information,
Marilyn

Hi Laura,

Thank you for your compliments. I will tell Elmer and Anna what you said. I like that farm myself, like what a farm should look like. We can't hang clothes outside where I live so I like to get pictures of them. I guess taking laundry pictures is funny.
