MENNONITE GROCERY STORE GOING UP IN MARION, NY

My bosses boss was at our Nutrition Center and said that someone was building a new grocery store where Surfine use to be in Marion, NY.  Surfine Grocery had closed many years ago and the building was vacant. Seeing Marion is only 5 miles from where I live, I jumped in the car and went over there to take pictures.  The people building it are Weaverland Mennonite.  The building looks like Sauders in Seneca Falls, right down to the same paint colors - but it is not Sauders - it is someone else.  Anyway here are pictures of it going up.  I plan to go over there and see if I can get inside pictures when it opens.

It looks like it will be a nice big store.

Hi Doreen,
I hope so, too. What I hope is that is like Sauder's and has a lot of items in it you can't get anywhere else. Wonder if they will have the book section like Sauder's. Can't wait until they open.

Hi Marilyn,

Looks like it will be a very store to shop in. All the grocery stores our way look all the same - giant, blocky buildings without any individuality or personality. Don't get me wrong, the clerks are mostly very nice and all but I can't stand cookie cutter buildings or homes!

Hi Laura,

In our area there aren't any others like they are building this one. The store that was there before was part of a chain so they all looked alike. I wonder if the clerks will be Mennonite here.

Wow Marilyn, 5min from where you live is great! I assume it will be just as good as Sauders, not to mention right in your own back yard-so to speak! Looking forward to how it all turns out. Blessings, Carol

Oh, BTW- since it is Weaverland Mennonites who have bought the place, I would think the store would be staffed by the Mennonites themselves. Of course no one will know for sure until the place opens for business. Take care, Carol

Hi Carol,

Sure glad that it is just 5 miles from where I live. I can't wait for them to open.

I think they would be Mennonite staffed, too, but they are the only Mennonites in Marion. Of course they are Weaverland Mennonites so that means they drive cars. The next town over has a lot more Mennonites than Marion so staff could drive to work. You are right, no one will know until the place opens for business. I hope they work fast on building and getting it stocked.

Blessings to you,
Marilyn

Patience is a virtue, but it sure is hard to walk in it! I'm sure it will all come together nicely in due time. Take care+"HI" to everyone! Carol

Hi Carol,
My Mom use to say: Patience is a virtue. Posses it if you can. Seldom by a woman. Never by a man.

It's going up pretty fast. I will wait until it is done. Also, I don't want to go in right when they open, it probably be packed.

Hi neme,
Yes, I have pictures of it since I put this post on. I will see if I can get the post on next week. In fact, now that I think of it, I will take a run over to see if it is open or not. I don't think so, though. I am glad you reminded me.

Hi neme,
After I left my previous comment, I went down to the store. There will be another post on July 17th showing the latest pictures. The store has a name now. Thank you for reminding me.
