VE-DAY

On May 7, 1945, the Western Allies - whose chief commanders in the field crossed the Rhine after having smashed through the strongly fortified Siegfried Line and overran West Germany.  Germany collapse came after the meeting (April 25th) of the Western and Russian armies at Torgau in Saxony after Hitler's death and amid the ruins of Berlin, which was falling to the Russians under marshals.  The unconditional surrender of German was signed at Rheims on May 7 and ratified at Berlin on May 8.

May 8 marks the formal celebration of the Allies victory in Europe during World War II.

Good Morning,

It might be terrible, but I didn't know what VE day was. So, when I found out I thought I would do a post today in honor.

Also, if you get a chance to read Amish News on the side, you might want to read Amish speak out on proposal. The article is by our local news - 13WHAM-TV News. Down near Seneca Falls in the town of Tyre there is a chance of a casino going in. The article is the Amish attending court proceedings and their views.

It would be terrible to put a casino in the middle of that farm land. When will this craziness stop!!?? It makes me sick to drive down beautiful county roads and find a new housing developments and commercial buildings sitting where a crop field was just a short time ago. How can our towns allow this to happen? Actually I know the answer to this, money! It's so sad.

Hello Everyone,

I am surprised that VE day isn't more celebrated / recognized than it currently is - such an important day to remember! Thank you Marilyn for reminding us all.

I won't even begin to comment on the casino - especially when so many office buildings and business complexes remain half empty! I just hope the town listens to reason and common sense!

Hi Doreen,

I agree with you. Putting a casino right in the middle of farming area is not right. I know it would be more jobs in the area, but they should be able to find another place for it.

Hi Laura,
You are welcome on V E DAY. When I read what it was, I thought we should all be reminded.

I hope the town listens to common sense too. I know it would mean a lot of jobs for people, but could pick a better place for it than in the farming area.
