Elmer told you all about my new greenhouse. Now, I can grow more plants all year around. Elmer likes plants in the house, but he doesn't take to well to my plants that "smell up the place" he says. We are talking about some of the herbs.
So now, I am finally going to answer your questions regarding herbs. Someone asked what herbs I grew. I grown herbs, vegetables and flowers. Herbs and vegetables are grown not only for eating, but also for medicine, too. Some flowers are also grown for medical purposes. I don't know if I can remember everything I have in, but I will give you a list of what I remember. My garden is at our old house. I will plant one at this house, next year. Elmer wants to turn the ground before winter and he will do it again the spring before I plant.
So the herbs I have planted are: allspice, aloe vera, anise, buckthorn, cayenne, celery seed, chamomile, clove, dill, echinacea, ginger, goldenseal, hawthorn, juniper, mullein, oregano, peppermint, rosemary, sage, thyme, basil, bay, catnip, garlic, hyssop, jewelweed, kelp, lavender, parsley, feverfew, lovage, pennyroyal, orangemint, green and blue cabbages, snap beans, marjoram, pumpkins, watermelons, onions, garlic, and more. I know I have more out in the garden, I just can't remember them all.
I was also asked if I dry some for the winter and yes, I do. Some I use for spices and some for medical reasons. So I have to save enough to get me through the winter for both reasons.
I was asked some other questions, but I want a separate post for each of them as I want to tell you how I make them in case you would like to make them.

49 Grandchildren. Wow! I'm always fascinated to hear about the Amish and Old Order Mennonites large families. Have most of your family members remained in NYS, or do many of them leave for other areas?
Your garden must be beautiful, and the new greenhouse will be so helpful in this part of the country. Is it a structure that can withstand the snow that we have from our long winters?

I can answer part of your questions, but I will give Anna the rest to answer. All of Anna and Elmer's children and grandchildren live in New York State.
As about the greenhouse, Anna will have to answer that.

What a rich, rich blessing to have 49 grandchildren! I cannot wait to have grandchild number one someday!!

Elmer tried to tell me how many he had, but had to put Anna on the phone. She named off all 49 of them. Of course, John has not had any children yet and she hopes when he marries that Elmer and Anna will have another grandchild. Anna can even tell me which child had which children. Elmer gets confused. Anna thinks it's funny.

Shortly I will be off to the hospital to pick up my friend Mary Lou. She has been in the hospital 8 months and today is her coming home day.

My friend did get home. She is so happy. The first thing she has to do is get an air conditioner. The hospital had air, her apartment doesn't. She has a fan, but that doesn't do the job. She has so many things she wants to do, but I told he to take it easy. Not to move to fast.

The lord has certainly blessed you - 49! That is wonderful and amazing! So happy for you! I was wondering what you use jewel weed for I know it makes a great soap for poison ivy rash, but do you use it for other things? Also do use coconut oil for anything? I have seen it mentioned a lot on the internet. One last question, do you use evening primrose for anything, and do you know of anyone using melatonin for a sleep aid. I know that is not the correct spelling, but I can't get the spell checker to work. I'm sorry, but thank you for all the sharing you all do. I have learned a great deal from Marilyn's blog, and been blessed by reading it since it began, and I enjoyed Richard's posts prior as well.

I wish I had more space for a bigger garden (if I also had more time to spend in it!). I imagine your garden is a lovely spot! It's always great to hear what people do with all the things they grow. I appreciate you taking the time to share with all of us!
