The Tuesday morning after we got home, John was at our door early in the morning saying something was wrong with Sarah. I asked him what. He said she had been sick for a few days. I asked how many are a few days. He said about a week. Her Mother had been over and given her some herbs, but it wasn't doing any good. I tried to get more information from him. Was she sick in bed? No. Was she running a fever? He didn't know. After asking him several questions he didn't know the answer to - I asked him how he knew she was sick. He said she locks herself in the bathroom and when he knocks on the door she tells him to go away. She also doesn't come in the kitchen to cook breakfast. Says she can't do it - he has to do it himself.
Well, one good thing there is I taught all my boys to cook. Not large dinners. But enough to get by on if their wife couldn't cook. Such things as bacon and eggs, hamburgers, hot dogs, home fried potatoes and more. So John does know how to cook. Like most of his brothers, he doesn't like to, but can do it in a pinch.
I told him to go, Elmer and I would be over. I got my medical bag, some herbs, and a few other things. Asked Elmer to make sure to bring the cell phone - just in case. As we were leaving Elmer asked me if I thought she had the flu. I said without seeing her my guess was she is expecting. Elmer said who is going to tell John. I said if she is expecting, Sarah will tell John, after I tell her.
When we got to the house, I asked one of the fellows to put on hot water to make tea. John asked me if all I was going to do was make tea. I told him after they put the water on, they were to go do chores. Then I went and knocked on the bathroom door. Sarah said she wanted to be along. I asked to please let me in. She said she wanted to be along. I told to either let me or I would get John or Elmer in here to take the door off the hinges. She opened it.
I told here that John had been to our house and was worried about her. Also, asked what her Mother had said and what herbs she gave her. Her Mother thought it was the flu, but the medicine didn't work. I took her tempature. It was normal. I asked her if she had an upset stomach? Yes. Was it all day? Mostly in the morning and eased as the day went on. I asked her a couple of personal questions. Then I asked her when she had her last monthly. She stopped. Looked at me and said it can't be. I said it could be. When she stopped to think she hand't had her monthly while they were in Florida. She was suppose to have it shortly after they got home and she didn't. I explained that she has morning sickness do to expecting. It should last about 3 maybe 4 months. Also told her to make an appointment with a doctor and midwife. She asked who was going to tell John. I told she was. I would make her some ginger tea and give her some soda crackers - that should help her stomach. Also, I would make breakfast - but she told John. Sarah asked me if I was ever wrong. I said yes, once - when I thought I was expecting, but wasn't. Never was I wrong on someone else and I wasn't wrong this time.
So I called John in and told him to meet Sarah in the bathroom she had something to tell him. While they were in there, I made breakfast and Elmer milked the cows. While I was cooking John and Sarah came out. John asked me I couldn't be wrong. I told him I could be but I wasn't. He was in such shock that I thought he was going to be sick. Elmer came in and took a look at John - grabbed his arm and took him outside. Told us ladies they needed a men talk.
Sarah went to the shanty phone later and made an appointment with the doctor. She also called the midwife and told her she would need her. Sarah, her Mother, John, Elmer, our driver and I went to the doctor at the hospital where they did a test and confirmed I was right. So we are looking forward to another Grandchild. We feel the baby should be arriving in late September or first part of October.
John and Anna were going to start looking for baby items for them, but Jean and David's family is making them a baby crib as a gift. Another of our son's is making them a rocking chair and stand where they can put all the diapers, baby powder, etc. It took us a hard time, but we Elmer and I did found a diaper service, so we told them that when baby comes, we would hire them diaper service for the first few months. John is looking for a maude (teenage girl) that could come in when the baby comes to do the cooking, cleaning, etc.
This was all suppose to have been a secret until Easter Sunday, but John was so proud he told his best friend and a couple of other fellows - and news spread fast. So that is my post for this week.
Trust God's Wisdom,
Anna

PS - Loved Elmer's story yesterday. Sure sounds like my husband and me.
He had to tell me to speak less loudly when he got his hearing aides too.
Oh goodness! I have been smiling during this whole post! So funny to me that they did not think of that!! Congratulations! What a blessing.

Hi Vickie,
You think she would have thought of that, but I guess she had other things on her mind. She told Anna they had only been married four months. Anna's replies was it doesn't take that long.

Wonderful news! Anna is one smart cookie. She knew right away. Blessings to all and I pray Sarah has an easier time in a couple of weeks. I remember the sickness with one of mine but when I was expecting her sister it was different and easy. It actually took the doctor 4 1/2 months to figure out what I already knew.
Bless them all!
