ELMER IS BACK !!!

Hope you, your family and friends had a Blessed and Happy Easter.   We had a very nice family Easter dinner at our house this year.  Of course, we prayed and thanked Jesus for giving His life and rising for us.

This, I guess is going to be a medical week.  Anna has a medical post tomorrow so mine is today  We are doing this backwards, but anyway.  Another member of our family had to be taken to the doctors, which Anna will explain tomorrow, and across the street was the hearing doctor.  We had gotten a brochure in the mail that said they would give you a free hearing test and a gift certificate to a local grocery store if you called, made an appointment, and had your hearing checked. Anna said seeing we were there, why didn't we go across the street and make ME an appointment.

Now my idea was if women spoke up I could hear them better.  In Florida, I couldn't hear Anna or Fannie very well, but I could Grandmother Olive loud and clear.  I had no trouble hearing Eli or Albert.  Everyone, including Eli and Albert who both wear hearing aides, thought I should have my hearing checked.  One time I was complaining because I couldn't hear Anna.  If she just spoke up I could hear her.  Eli responded and said she can't speak much louder - she was almost screaming at me.

So we went over to make an appointment.  I figured I would make the appointment, make some excuse to cancel a couple of days after we got home.  But, like before, I went to make one and they had a cancellation and could take me right away.  I told them I couldn't wait as we had a driver.  The driver said he didn't mind waiting.  So, after filling out papers and giving them every excuse I could think, I went into see the doctor.

Now the doctor is a character like I am.  First thing he said was: your wife made your come.  I said yes.  He says she thinks you can't hear a darn thing.  Again, I agreed.  Well, he called in the nurse, and said to give Anna the papers to fill out because he was going to test her next and we wouldn't except any excuses.  I don't know what Anna said but she wasn't happy.  He asked me when I could hear her better.  I said if she was kitchen and so was I couldn't hear here very well.  But if she was in the kitchen and I was in the living room, I could hear her better.  I didn't know why.  Doctor says sound.

So I took the test.  I waited while he read the tests and came back in and said my wife was right.  I don't hear well.  Certain sounds do not carry well. I asked why I couldn't hear Anna and Fannie in Florida and yet  I could hear Grandmother Olive.  He said Grandmother Olive's voice must be a different pitch than Anna and Fannie - and Grandmother Olive is.  He explained to me about pitches and some can be heard easier than others.  Also, how sound is better in certain pitches.

Next he took Anna's hearing test.  She came out just fine.  When he brought Anna and I together to explain how I needed hearing aides, she didn't say she told me so, which I appreciated. Anna thought I should get hearing aides that go over your ear.  I wanted the ones that fit in your hear.  Anna said the ones that fit in my ear were vain.  If I lost one of those in the barn or fields, we were never find it.  Finally I used the doctor's phone to call Eli and ask him, as Bishop, what I could buy.  Actually I called Eli's neighbor and asked him to get Eli to call us back.  Eli called back, I explained the situation to which he said didn't matter which I got, but like Anna agreed if I lost one of the inner ear ones, we would never find it.  So I ordered the hearing aides that fit over my hears.

When I got them, they were first a little uncomfortable or maybe it was just that I wasn't use to them, but a whole new world opened.  I could hear things I couldn't hear before.  Anna came in loud and clear.  I had to tell her not to yell at me as she was too loud.  She had been yelling at me so I would hear here and forgot that she didn't have to do that anymore.Anna's voice is great, Jean's voice is fine, even called Fannie and can hear her fine.  Getting pretty use to the hearing aides now.  Just have to remember to put them on in the morning.  Anna says they don't help me if I don't put them on.  Can even year birds better.  Didn't know how bad my hearing was .

Well that's my story.

Trust in God' Wisdom,
Elmer

It must be very nice to hear the birds and nature in general, along with Anna, friends, and family. Thank you for sharing your story.

Happy Easter to everyone. I had a lovely day with my family and didn't have a chance to be on the computer. Also thank you for all of the recipes. I have plenty of ham to use up this week.

Welcome back to the GOOD hearing world, Elmer! Now that you CAN hear well, you know just what you've been missing! Glad you did choose the over the ear ones. My Dad has hearing aids also, and when he's outside working he doesn't wear them lest he lose one(they are the ones thT fit within the ear). They aren't inexpensive and one really doesn't want to ever lose them.
Glad everyone is home again! Now back to life in NYS! Blessings to all, Carol

Good Morning Carol,
A lady that lives here had one of those small ones and it fell out in our front lawn - she never did find it. She had insurance.
I will see that Elmer gets your message. Now he is trying to get me to go because my hearing is bad.

This story made me smile. Glad you got the hearing aides, Elmer! Must be nice to hear things you had probably not even realized you had missed! Perhaps also a little safer driving the buggy when you can hear other vehicles coming a little better!

Hi Willow's Quiet Corner,
I will see that Elmer gets your message. That is something we never thought of - hearing better while driving the horse and buggy. He should be able to hear vehicles coming better.

Hi Marilyn, It would probably be wise to heed Elmer's advise. It wouldn't hurt. Any one who has any kind of hearing loss really needs to have a proper hearing evaluation. All the excuses in the world can't hold a candle to improved hearing! Otherwise one will miss out on a lot!
Blessings, Carol

Good for Elmer! Also, what a coincidence. My boss got his hearing aids this AM from the VA hospital, and what a difference in his hearing and he hasn't had to scream all day! He got the little ones but they come with a LOT of instructions. They are so small they can fall out and if they do and his dogs (In Elmer's case dogs and livestock) find them and eat them the battery will kill them. Something to think about. Glad Elmer got the proper ones. Carol in SC
