In 1794, the village was the site of the first European - American settlement in Sodus town. Before the American Revolution, the area for centuries was the territory of the Onondaga Nation.
During the war of 1812, the village was burned by a British raiding party, leaving all but one building demolished. The village was rebuilt.
The area became an important port on Lake Ontario in the 19th century. As the Erie Canal shifted state transportation patterns the villages as a port declined in the late 19th century. It has become a popular vacation resort.
Sodus Point became incorporated in 1958.
I had not been there in almost 40 years. My friend, her husband and I were discussing this at Sunday breakfast. Her husband decided we were taking a run over there after breakfast. So that is how this post became about.
Pictures one and six are their newest lighthouse. Picture two is a sail boat on Sodus Bay. Pictures 3, 4, and 5 are houses and cottages on Sodus Bay. Pictures 7, 8, 9, and 10 are of the beach. Picture 11 is the Coast Guard Building. Pictures 12 and 13 are of the older Lighthouse that you can go in and view. Last pictures 14 and 15 are their honor for Vietnam Veterans.

Good morning, Marilyn. Beautiful! My favorite is number six. The lighthouse looks mysterious with the grass almost hiding it...
We love Sodus Point and it is even amazing in the winter, especially the pier when the ice forms on it. We drive out several times during the year and usually have lunch at Captain Jacks. Always a nice little road trip. Cathy in Webster

Someday they would like to take a trip up the east coast and visit every lighthouse they can find while seeing that part of the country. I over slept this morning. Glad you liked the pictures. It was just an spur minute idea to run over there. As you can see, it was a beautiful day. A couple of people have told me that I should enter picture number 6 in the fair this year. I have never entered pictures before, so I will have to check into what I have to do.
Have to get Pierre to the dog groomer's this morning.
