ELMER ANSWERS QUESTIONS

Thank you folks for the questions, they are really appreciated.  Keep them coming in as you think of them.  It helps to figure out what to talk about.

Someone asked about our gas.  I guess I didn't say it right.  The gas we have is from our propane gas tank.  The tank is in our yard.  That tank was a big problem when we built the house and they installed the tank.  Where they wanted to install it, was right, in the front of our house.  Anna told them no way were they putting that tank there.  They explained to Anna and myself about their convenience to fill it if it is in that location.  Anna didn't care how convenient the filling was that tank was not going in the front of our house.  I tried to tell Anna it was all right there.  Anna said it was not all right there.  After a couple of weeks going back and forth, they finally agreed to put the tank on the side of the house.  Anna is still not happy where it is, but agrees it is a lot better than having right in front of the house.

We also use generators, too, sometimes.  Generators are used for milking the cows, running the washing machine and a few other things around the farm, when necessary.

Another person asked if Amish or Old Order Mennonites do beekeeping.  Some do.  Neither our family or Jean's family does.  Right off hand I can't think of anyone that does, but I know there are some.  Will see if I can find out more information about it.

I do know this about beekeeping - there is nothing like honey fresh from the bees.  It is sure a lot better tasting than the store bought honey.  Oh, I just thought of someone in our church that does beekeeping.  I will talk to him next Sunday at church and see if he would tell us about it.  Maybe either he puts on a post or gives the information to me and I put on a post., whichever he wants.

Don't want to answer to many questions at the same time, then I won't have anything to write about again.

Trust God's Wisdom,
Elmer

Anna certainly knows what she wants and doesn't want!!! I know a young Amish man in Dansville, NY who is a beekeeper. Tom The Backroads Traveller

I agree with Anna. No way would that big ol' tank be in front of the house.

Good morning, Marilyn. I'm with Anna. Propane tanks are not the most attractive thing in the world! LOL

Good Morning Tom,

Anna sure does. You do know an Amish man that is a beekeeper. That's interesting.

Good Morning Vickie,

I agree with you and Anna. I guess the reason the gas company wanted the tanks that way as it was easier to fill them in the winter. But still it is a dumb place to put them. What is funny about this is if you drive in their area, there's is about the only house that receives propane gas where the tank isn't in front of the house.

Good morning Marilyn. Autumn is a gorgeous sunflower. I agree with Anna also. Who would want a big propane tank in front of their house. I have propane and the tank is off to the side but easy for them to access. Elmer is so right about the honey also. Bees are brought to the farm and put in an old orchard. So, I am fortunate to receive 6 half gallons each fall and it is raw honey. I bought some raw honey twice before I had the sense to call and ask about the honey I already had. After my calling them, I noticed they now label the honey so everyone knows they are getting raw honey. It can help with allergies if you eat raw honey, that comes from within 50 mi. radius of your home. Thank you Elmer for sharing with us.

Hi Elmer, I must say I would agree with Anna re: the propane tank not being in the front of the house. Compromise on this issue seems to have worked here, thankfully.
John and I have friends in Alabama. A few years ago, one of their daughters decided she would like to begin beekeeping. She did her homework on the subject diligently while saving the money to get started. The hives continue to do beautifully and I'm sure she will be beekeeping at the home she and her husband just moved into this past weekend with their 3 children. Such a blessing is fresh honey-so many benefits!
Blessings to you and all your family, Carol

Marilyn: Please thank Elmer for explaining re: gas. He told it well the first time, it was me who didn't get it! Now I remember seeing the tanks in my visits up north.
I thought there may be Amish/Mennonite bee keepers. The bees are so important to crops. I work a man who keeps bees, gathers the honey and rents or loans his hives to farmers to pollinate their fields. He even moved a hive that made their home in the water meter on our complex. Beekeepers have a special knack.

Hi Dynnamae n,

Glad you like the sunflower. I do, too. Also, I agree with Anna regarding that tank. Glad yours is off to the side. One of the roadside stands I had on here had raw honey. When I got back that way, I will have to buy one. I have never had raw honey.

Hi Carol,

I agree with Anna on the location of the tank. Your friends daughter's beekeeping sounds interesting. Still have to try that raw honey.

Blessings to you and yours,
Marilyn

Hi Carol in SC,

Will see that Elmer gets all the messages. Beekeeping sounds interesting. I am allergic to bees so I stay away from bees. It is interesting that bees pollinate the crops. You are right, beekeepers have a special snack.

Hi Marilyn,

Thank you, Elmer and everyone for all the information and comments about beekeeping as I was really curious to find out more information about it. I am also allergic but am wishing they would have or start a local beekeeping co-op out this way where one could invest in financially if nothing else to help produce local honey (not that I have the means right now but I think it's something that folks might be interested in).

Hi Laura,

I will see that Elmer gets your message. I know that there is an Englisher couple, the next town over from where I live, that do beekeeping. They have customers that come to them and they sell on weekends at craft sales this time of year. They both have other jobs during the week.
