I tried to get pictures of a woodpecker this summer. It was in a tree in my friends front yard. Never got those pictures. Little did I know that there was one right outside my door. The first two pictures I took a week or so ago. The rest I took this week. It lets you walk real close to it.

Good morning, Marilyn. You have prettier woodpeckers than we do! LOL Our's don't have the speckled feathers. Very nice pictures. Have a good day.
Good Morning Angela,
We do have pretty woodpeckers. LOL What was funny is that I couldn't get pictures of any woodpeckers at my friends house and my neighbor said we have them here. I said where. He said right outside your door and sure enough we do. I like the speckled feathers. Hope you have a good day, too.

That's a Downey....female..the males have a little red spot on top of their heads.
Hi SueAnn,
Does that mean it's not a woodpecker or is Downey a type of woodpecker? Thank you for telling me.

Very nice photos of the Downy woodpecker. I feed the birds and love all the different woodpeckers that come. I have 5 varieties where I live. My feline girls and I enjoy all the birds. I liked the farm photos also. Side note, there is the Downy Woodpecker and the Hairy Woodpecker. They look alike but the Hairy is the bigger variety.
Right- it is a woodpecker..just a Downy- its name...the Hairy is bigger, like dynnamae said...and the chest feathers are a little different..you would have to see them side by side to know..if you have never seen them...
Hi dynnamae n, and SueAnn,
Thank you for telling me. I didn't know. Sometimes I use a friend of mine's bird book that was her Mother's by the National Something organization. I asked her for one for Christmas. It shows all the northern birds with pictures, with a description and other information. I have a little book, but I need one like she has. I borrow my friends, but of course, she always wants it back. So maybe for Christmas she will be get one.
