JEAN'S POST

The children are out of school now, in fact, have been out for a couple of weeks.  Susan has two jobs this summer.  One is helping the lady across the street with her housekeeping, gardens, etc. and a part time job babysitting for another family.

Katie would like to have a job of her own, but she is still too young.  I still keep telling her that I need her to help me around the house.

David will be starting school in August, when the school goes back.  He is the last of our little ones to go to school.  In a way he is looking forward to it - recess time to play ball.  Education wise, he thinks is a waste.  He feels that David and I could teach him all he needs to know.

Someone asked if the teachers ever get together for information or training sessions?  I wouldn't call them training sessions, exactly.  The teachers from the Old Order Mennonite and Amish schools from our area get together to discuss new state rules, if someone has a problem with a child, activities, education information, any problems a teacher might have, etc.

Also our local Old Order Mennonite teachers have a meeting with our school board, two or three times a year.  They discuss any problems at school, questions the teacher might have, changes that have to be made, etc.

At the end of the school year, either our Old Order Mennonite group or the Amish get together and have a dinner for the teachers.  It is sort of to thank the teachers for all they have done during the school year.  We usually have a gift for each teacher, dinner, and have some of the children come and sing.  We want our teachers to know they are appreciated.  Not all Old Order Mennonite and Amish do this, but we do.  One year we hold it and the next year the Amish hold it.

Are there ever new requirements as to what they must teach?  We have to meet the rules of the State of New York, which does mean changes sometimes.  Our children must take certain tests that the children in the public school, also must take.  So, if the State changes, so do our schools have to change.

If my Bible in Deitsch or German?  It is in German.  Either Marilyn or I had made a mistake when we wrote about it last time.  We made a slip up.

I, too, could use questions.  Think, I have answered all the questions you asked.  Could always use more.

Be With God,
Jean

On my calendar this morning:

You have to look for the joy.  Look for the light of God that is hitting your life, and you will find sparkles you didn't know were there.

Hi Marilyn,

Here are some questions for whomever you think would be appropriate to receive them:

Do you ever dry seeds from any plants to use for next year and if so, how do you dry and store them?

In making quilts, do the colors have any special spiritual significance? (I am thinking of the bright Amish quilts)

For those who do woodworking, do you make quilting hoops and stands and if so, are they ever for sale to Englishers?

Do you have any good recommendations for getting set stains out of white linens? I purchased a white table cloth that has embroidered flowers on it and it has some stains so I would like to find a way to remove them or lighten them.

This may have been covered before but do you have any home remedies for arthritis?

How is Grandmother Olive doing?

What is your most favorite passage from the bible?

What brand of hand sewing needles do you like to use?

In your vegetable garden, do you use raised beds or do you grow anything with special vertical structures to keep the plants growing upright?

What types of fruits and vegetables do you grow in your garden?

Do you ever purchase fruit or vegetable plants from a nursery or do you grow from seed?

What fruit and vegetable plants do you recommend for a beginner to try growing?

Do you ever grow any fruit/vegetable plants in containers? (I don't have that much room)

Thank you Marilyn :-)

Hi Folks,
Will see that Jean gets all your messages and questions. Keep those questions coming in for not only Jean, but Elmer, Anna, and Bishop Eli.
