I got up this morning to find that an Amtrak train was involved in an accident with another train. Porter was on the Amtrak train. I contacted his wife and she has not heard from him. Usually when a train Porter is on, gets in an accident he calls her on his cell phone and tells her that he is okay. She hasn't heard from him. She said it could be the area and the cell phone doesn't work or he is unable to use the phone at this time. She doesn't know. I asked her if I could put this information on here and she said it was fine. She will let us know as soon as she knows something.
11:10
Got a call from Porter's wife. She got a call, Porter is in one of the hospitals. She was told it is not life threatening injuries. When Porter's son, that is a minister, church service is over he and Mrs. Porter are going up to South Carolina. T"hey are flying. She will let us know more information when she sees Porter in person.
7:50 PM
I spoke with Porter on the telephone. He, his wife, his son and daughter-in-law are in hotel rooms in Columbia, South Carolina. Porter said he had a bang on the head and bruises- that's why he was in the hospital. They released him to his wife. They are planning on staying at the hotel today and probably tomorrow. When he tries to sleep he sees those people at the crash. His son has prayed with him and read bible passages that helped. Right now he and his son are watching the Super Bowl and his wife and daughter-in-law are in the other room watching the dog super bowl. At this time Porter is not allowed to tell some of the information of what happened. I read all your posts and he couldn't believe that you all cared so much. The two men that were killed were friends of his. They worked together for a long time. Some of the passengers need prayers too. He thanks us all for our thoughts and prayers. He said he will give more later depending on how he feels and he is allowed. He really doesn't know what caused the accident because he was in the back of the train - but still they say don't say anything so he won't.

I am praying he is alright. I took my first Amtrak train ride on January 1st. I liked it! I went from Milwaukee, WI to Chicago, IL.
Good Morning Vickie,
Thank you for the prayers. Oh, you did get your first Amtrak. So glad you liked it !! I want to go sometime, too.

Thankful to hear about Porter and his family. Will be praying for all those families involved. I so enjoyed my Amtrak trip and would go again if the opportunity comes up. Thank you, Marilyn for this info. Hugs to you & Pierre.
Continued prayers that Porter and those families involved can come to some spiritual resolve in this tragedy and find peace.
Hi Folks,
Porter wasn't to thank all of us for our prayers. They are really appreciated not only by him and his family, but many others, too.

Was very surprised to read your post this morning about Porter being on the Amtrak train that had the collision. Was so glad to hear that he's alright even though bruised. It's funny how we only know him through what we've read on this website - but we all show and feel concern for this man from reading about his good qualities that you have shared with us. Please pass along our good wishes and prayers for him, his family and all that were involved in this accident.
Marilyn: When I woke up to the news of the AMTRAK crash Porter came to mind. I live in the area. Prayers to all. From what I understand, they have been taken care of and needs are being met. If I can be of help to his family, let me know. Carol in SC
Hi Folks,
Porter thanks all of us for our thoughts and prayers at this time not only for him, but all the others killed and injured.
God Bless You,
Marilyn
