PIERRE'S - THE BARK

Mom got busy yesterday and didn't get a post on.  So I am here to tell you that Mom is fine, she isn't sick and will have posts tomorrow, Friday and Sunday.  Told her she should do the posts ahead so she wouldn't have this problem.

So I have a question.  A friend of Mom's and Mom were talking the other day.  Mom's friend is 80 and Mom is 69.  How old is too old to get a dog?

Love to all,
Pierre

Good Morning Tom,

You are welcome.

Pierre - that's a tough question. I think it depends on the health of the human parent. It can be very difficult to take care of yourself plus a pet. That said, I think many senior dogs would do very well with senior people - a good match. The companionship each offers to one another is a special thing.
Thanks for your post, Pierre!

Hi Mary,

I agree with you. I think seniors should also have someone who will take over their pet if they get ill and can't do it anymore. I know Mom has plans for me if something ahould happen to her and she can't take care of me.

That seems to be the main concern Marilyn. That is how we got our Murphy. He was 12 when we adopted him from the humane society because his senior went to the nursing home. Her daughter tried taking Murphy in for 4 months and decided not to keep him. I do understand. He is hard to deal with. And we have had him for 2 and a half years now. He is 14 1/2 now!

Hi Vickie,
You did a great thing in adopting both of your poodles especially Murphy. It is terrible for a dog to lose their owner much less be sent to The Humane Society or alike. I know it happens sometimes, It is great that Murphy landed in your home where is loved and taken care of. It doesn't seem that he is that old already, but time passes fast.

Love,
Pierre and Marilyn

My 85 year old neighbor adopted an older dog recently. His wife has dementia and the dog had become his confidant and companion. I should say the dog adopted him. And yes if something should happen the dog will have a good home

Thank you everyone for your answers. We really appreciate it. These are going to Mom, of course, and her friend.
