PALMYRA OPERA HOUSE, GYM , NOW EMPTY

On the bottom of this building is the Village Hall, Police Department, Building Inspector, Mayor's Office, Court Hall, etc.  The second floor is empty now, but use to be the Community Center which has moved to a another building.  But many years before it was being the Community Center, it use to be an opera house.  They allowed a tour in there a few years ago and for some reason, I couldn't go, but my neighbor Randy went and took these pictures.  There was talk of converting it to an opera house again, but that didn't go over.  Then there was talk of converting it into a couple of different places, but they all got voted down.  These pictures were taken a few years ago and it still remains the same today.  Empty.  It's kind of sad.  Randy passed away about a year and a half ago and we still miss him.

There will be a post tomorrow.

...indeed it's sad to have all this space unused.

Yes, Marilyn-Sad the space if left unused. My, I should think people should be able to get together and come up with a truly good idea for the space that would be of benefit to the community.
Keep warm out in your area. Sunny here, but it seems colder this morning than it was yesterday. T is 8/feeling like 3. Surely better than what the mid-west has been through to be sure. Blessings y'all. Carol

Hi Carol,
I guess it's the cost that really stopped them. They had a contractor come in and tell them what it would cost. They were taking donations for the renovation, but when they found out the cost, they stopped.

I think they should put the police department up there. They have a dinky little place. Their jail is in the cellar and they are not allowed to use it anymore. So now if they arrest someone and have to jail them they have to transport them to Lyons. That takes protection from our village while they are taking someone to Lyons. But no one listens to me.
