JEAN'S POST

It has been a long time since I have been on here.  I didn't realize it was that long until Edward told me when I was on last - August.

The men are doing all their plowing now.  They just can't wait to get into plowing.  When we had the last snow David was out plowing the snow under in hope it would make sure we have a good crop this year.

I should say all the men but Edward and Michael.  Edward is doing taxes for people this time of year.  Thomas told Edward he would plow his land for him if he would do his taxes for him.  Edward agreed.  Michael is still in Florida so he is not plowing but still working his job there.

Edward and Margaret are getting married this fall.  As it is usual that the man asked the bride's father, Michael came and asked David and myself it they would approve them getting married.  He did it very proper, came over the house dressed as if for church.  Edward told us that he loved her, would take care of her properly and they would honor the Lord.  David and I both approved.  Then Michael left as it is the Father's position to tell our daughter that he approved.

Poor Margaret was upstairs, I think close to having a nervous breakdown that we would not approve.  So when David went upstairs and knocked on the door he said the door flew open.  He was surprised it was still on the hinges.  He asked Margaret if she was sure she wanted to marry Edward.  She said yes.  He told her that we approve.   She screamed.  Susan and Katie ran out of their bedroom doors, they thought something was wrong.  David say he had just approved Edward and Margaret getting married. They said oh, is that all and went back in their rooms.

The problem is Edward want's the wedding in his house.  Our house is bigger and would like to have it in our home.  David, said joking in order to have it at Edward's they would have to expand one side of the house.  Edward asked how long it would take.  David said we are not doing that now with plowing starting.  We understand that Edward wants the wedding in his house because it was his Grandmother's house, but I don't think we would fit everyone in it.

Thomas thinks we should have a barn raising at Edward's house.  All Edward has is a small one now.  He also has a small office that attaches to his house for his tax work.  Thomas and David got talking and if they took the small barn now and built a bigger one that might settle the problem.  He will need the bigger barn anyway.  That way, the wedding could be held in the barn and the cooking done in the kitchen.  After the wedding, they will have to feed people in shifts or if everyone moved fast - after the wedding we could could set the barn up and eat in the barn.  Just don't invite too many people and hope it doesn't rain.

It is the Mother's position to sew the bride's dress and the groom's Mother makes the grooms.  As I am both of their's Mother, I told Margaret to pick the color she would like.  She asked that I go with her to pick the color.  Susan said she would help me make them.

It seems like October is a long way off, but with time flying like it is, we want to get as much as we can done as soon as we can.

Katie's Grandmother passed away a few months ago.  She was living with us as her health had gone down. Poor Katie took it hard, but I understand.  She said all her family was gone, but I told her she is our family now.  That made her feel some better.  With losing her parents and grandparents, she is afraid that something will happen to us.  We explained the Lord's will.  That if something happened to us she, David Jr. and Susan would go to Thomas and Ruth.  If something happened to them, they would got to Edward and Margaret.  If something happened to them they would go to Bishop Joseph and Martha.  If something happened to them, they would go to Elmer and Anna and we had more people if she wanted us to assure her more. But we hope to live to see her grow up, marry and see our grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The board where Margaret is teacher is looking for another teacher and Margaret will not be coming back.  Well, unless they can't find another teacher.  Susan would love to take it, but she has four more years in school - she is not old enough.

Susan would be good, though.  The teacher got ill at school and could not leave until someone came to take over.  She asked one of the students to take over until a parent came.  No one moved at first.  She asked again and Susan got up, walked to the front and took right over.  Neither the teacher or the parent that arrived to take over could believe Susan taking right over.  The teacher called us a couple of days later when she was better and said Susan has great teacher potential.  I told her Susan would take over for Margaret, if they would let her, but she's still in school and not old enough.

David Jr. has grown so.  He, of course, is still in school.  In school he does just what he has to which gets us upset. He would rather be working with his Dad on the farm on construction.  David Sr. does not to get as upset about it as I do.  David said it is like Father like son.

So I think I have told you about all our children.
