Happy Birthday, Pierre.  He is 9 years old today.  I thank the Lord that He brought us together six years ago.  You are the best little doggie boy and are loved through and through.

MENNONITE MAN AND DAUGHTER

SENATOR HENRY W. GRIFFITH

                                         

                                         

Senator Henry W. Griffith was born on January 11, 1897, in Palmyra, Wayne County, New York, the son of Senator Frederick W. Griffith (1858 to 1928) and Mary (Adams) Griffith.  He graduated from Palmyra High School in 1914 and in absentia from Hamilton College in 1918.  During World War 1, he was a second lieutenant of field artillery of the U. S. Army.  In 1925 he married Agnes McLouth and they had four daughters.  He published the Palmyra Courier - Journal, a weekly newspaper.

Griffith was a member of New York State Senate from 1939 until 1950.  In 1950 he ran for re-nomination but was defeated in the Republican primary by George R. Metcalf.

He died on July 21, 1956 while on a fishing trip at his lodge in Ontario, Canada of a heart attack.

The top grave stone is Senator Henry W. Griffith's and is in the Griffith Cemetery area.  The second grave tone is of his wife, Agnes McLouth Griffith, but is not located next her her husband's.  Agnes Griffith is buried in the McLouth section of the cemetery - as she requested. 

The third grave stone is their daughter's Agnes E. Griffith  who is still alive as you can see on the grave stone.  There are two of these grave stones - one next to her Father's grave and one next to her Mother's grave.

JEAN'S WINTER SQUASH SOUP

JEAN'S WINTER SQUASH SOUP

1 Tablespoon butter
1 Tablespoon minced shallot or onion
2 clove garlic, minced
3 fresh thyme sprigs
1 pinch dried rosemary
2 packages (10 ounces each) frozen winter (butternut) squash, thawed
1 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
3 Tablespoons milk
Sour Cream (if desired)

Melt butter in medium saucepan over medium heat.  Add shallot, garlic, thyme and rosemary; cook and stir 2 or 3 minutes or until shallot is tender.  Add squash and chicken broth; bring to a boil.  Add milk, stir until blended.

Remove thyme sprigs from soup.  Transfer soup to blender or food processor; blend until smooth. (Add addition liquid to make soup thinner, if desired.) top with dollop of sour cream.

ELMER'S POST

Well here I am to tell you about so many things and now I can't remember them all.  Let's see.  We have found out some things about out our cottage.  Someone who was down n Florida took a picture of our place - and there weren't any windows in it.  There was a whole lot of contruction material around the outside.  I hear it's advanced and there are windows in it.



We had dinner waiting on Halloween Night as that is Michael and my birthday.  I wasn't sure he was going to make it, but Anna said he would.  Anna was right - he showed up on time.  We also invited Jean, David and the rest of the family.  Michael came right at dinner time.  We all had a nice dinner and exchanged gifts.  All of us, were glad that he came.

I know he is going through a tough time right nice trying to decide if he should stay Mennonite or go Englisher.  He doesn't want to be a horse and buggy Mennonite, if he goes that way.  He wants to become are more modern, car driving Mennonite.  It is also hard on the his family, too.  We pray that he will be shown the correct way.

Also, we had a nice Thanksgiving this year as we do every year.  I think Anna enjoyed this one a little better as instead of cooking the whole dinner all she had to was bring a dish to pass as our daughters did the rest.  Of course, Anna did not set around.  She helped set up the dinner and cleaning when it was done.

Think I have everything on here I am suppose to.  If not will put on next time.

Drove down by the canal on my birthday and saw these birds sitting on the shore.  Soon they will be heading south.
