MENNONITE FARM - TURKEYS

I was driving down the road in a Mennonite farm area in early December and saw the turkeys walking back and forth at that fence along side the road.  I had to stop and take the pictures.   While there I also took pictures of the house and barns.  What I wonder is how many of those turkeys made it through Christmas alive? When I went buy a couple of weeks ago, I didn't see any turkeys or chickens, but it was so cold, they could have been inside the barns.

If you live near a Mennonite or Amish farm area, it is a nice peacefull area to drive through.  There are large farms and maybe you will see some buggies.

Should you go to a Mennonite or Amish area and take some pictures you would like to share with us, please let me know at lincolnlady1121@yahoo.com, as I would be glad to put them on New York State of Mind.

Morning Marilyn
Thank you for another good post -it was nice to see the Turkeys outside- some you read about never see the light of day

I wish we had Amish and Mennonite communities here in Scotland-I think Ireland has a small Amish community

We are expecting snow any time-stay warm and safe

Good Morning Fionalina,
Glad you like the turkey post. They were funny-just kept going back and forth like they wanted to escape. LOL

Wish Amish and Mennonite were closer to you, too. I didn't know Ireland had an Amish Community. Very interesting.

You try to stay warm, too,
Marilyn

When I lived in PA I just loved driving on the backroads, you would always discover something beautiful.

That is really true. You can here, too.

Thank you Marilyn I will try
I don't blame the turkey's they must have sensed their fate

The community in Ireland is part of an outreach programme from the United States and was established about 20 years ago

They very well could have, Fionalina.

I didn't know that. My grandparents on my Mother's side came from Ireland, so I am very interested. I would like to go to Ireland, sometime, and see where my grandparents grew up.

Good morning Marilyn and Pierre. Did you know, I never saw white turkeys before! I see them wild very near to our house. They certainly aren't white! ;)

Good Morning Vickie and Mabel, Most of the raised turkeys I've seen are white in our area. Once in a great while I've seen multi-colored ones, but they are wild, at least in our area.

Hi Marilyn, Thanks for sharing the pics of the turkeys and home. I was wondering if Martha or Jean have recipes for roasting a turkey with all of the fix'ins.
Fionalina - I subscribe to the Budget and have often wondered about the Amish community in Ireland- thank you for the info! Also, I just watched a show on living in Scotland and would love to go there some day!

I think all of those turkeys made it through Christmas and are snuggled up before the fireplace roasting marshmallows and exchanging vegetarian recipes! ;)

Hi Cheryl,
I sure hope you are right. When it warms up, I will have to take a run by there and see if they are still there.

Hello Marilyn. Great posts all week. I have been so busy with taking care of my parents and our own family needs time has ran by so quickly. I have been reading but taking the time to comment only this morning as I have a free moment. It is alot of work to take care of your parents but I would not have it any other way. I really enjoyed the recipes this week and also Martha telling us about the wedding. What a difference in their traditions and how weddings have become in the worlds standards. At the end of the day I think the Mennonites and Amish would be more what I would enjoy. I hope that Bridget and Kevin are enjoying their new apartment. What a blessing that so many helped make it so wonderful. I am not surprised because to bless Jean and David blessings also returned to them. God is good!! I also hope things are going well with the move for a Jean and David and their wonderful family. Always praying for everyone involved in the blog and thank you for all your hard work. Veronica

Hi Veronica,
So glad to hear from you. As I said, I took care of my parents, too. They took care of us and raised us all those years-now it's our turn to take care of them. It is sure hard sometimes though. You and your family are in my prayers. Bridget and Kevin are enjoying their apartment. They were sure surprised. Thank you for your compliments. I hope things look up for you and your family.
