SPRING IN OLD ORDER MENNONITE AREA

These are some pictures I took while driving around near where Jean and Martha live last Saturday.    The tractor in the field is either Edward or Michael plowing in the field Jean and David gave them to work this year.  I took a picture of each them in the tractor they were driving, but I can't tell which one is which.  Hope you enjoy these pictures.

So the Old Order Mennonites use farm equipment as other "English" farmers would? I notice the tires and of course the lack of horses.

Good Morning Vicki,
You asked a very good question so I called to find out. Old Order Mennonite have used gas powered tractors since the late 1940's or early 50's but until last year they used tractors without rubber tires. When they went on the roads they would put rubber strips across the medal. The county was not happy because it tore up the roads when they went from one farm to another. So after meetings with the county they made it a law that you have to have rubber tires before you can put the tractors on the road. Old Order Mennonite had many meetings and discussions. To make a long story short they had to get rubber tires on the tractors if they ran them on the road. So the rubber tires on Old Order Mennonite tractors has been a little over a year. Not all Old Order Mennonite do this in every county, but they do where Jean and Martha live.

Good morning Marilyn. Once again I have been reading but have had little time for commenting. All the posts have been wonderful from yourself Jean and Martha. I hope Jean and David are settling into their new home well. It has been great to have some nicer weather her also. We have been able to take my mom outside of the hospital some days which is great as she has been in for more than 2 months now. She is in a wonderful rehabilitation hospital now and they are working with her to build her strength and get her walking again. She may be able to come home sometime in June. I know when she does my father will be so happy as he misses her so much. I want to take this chance to wish all the mothers on the blog a Happy Mothers Day and for those who also may not have children but are still wonderful role models for other women Happy Mothers Day to you also.Take care and remember I continue to pray for all of you. God Bless Veronica

Hello Doreen,
Thank you for the compliments and Happy Mother's Day to you. I will pass the compliments on. I will have to ask or, better yet, get Martha to ask Bridget to do a post. I don't if Bridget will or not, but we will ask.
