JIM ERDLE TRACTOR AUCTION, CANANDAIGUA, NY - 9/21/13

Last week I had antique cars - this week I have the Jim Erdle  tractor auction in Canandaigua, NY that was held yesterday (9/21) and is still going on today (9/22), if you live in the area and want to take a run over there. The auction starts at 10:00 AM today, if you are interested.  Mr. Erdle started collecting back in the 1950's.  He studied and researched tractors before he purchased them.  Some of the tractors in his collection are the rarest in the world.  Getting older, Mr. Erdle decided to sell his collection.  There were over 150 tractors there to be auctioned off along with tractor parts. The tractors shown here are just a few that I have pictures of.  I will be putting more tractor posts on later.  There were Englishers, Amish and Mennonites at this auction.  In fact David, Michael, Edward, Bishop Joseph, Kevin and Elmer with his wife Anna, were there.  In the Amish picture is Elmer's Bishop.  If you wanted to bid, you went into one tent to sign up and got a number.  All the outside tractors had a number.  The auction was inside the large tent.  The picture of the tractor would show along with the number on the screen and people would bid inside. The auction people were on stage.  Outside were some venders selling food, soft drinks, crafts, etc.  People could  bid on the tractors at the auction, by telephone or on ebay.  People came to this auction from all around the United States and some foreign countries.  They said this was a once in a life time auction and I had to be there.  When I entered I asked if I could take pictures and was told sure - so I took them - lots of them.

ANOTHER POST OF JIM ERDLE TRACTOR AUCTION WILL BE ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH.  THE REST OF THE POSTS ARE: SEPTEMBER  28th, OCTOBER 3rd AND THE FINAL ON OCTOBER 4th.

Good Morning Vickie,

It was really interesting. I really enjoyed being there until it started to rain. Then I left.

Hope you, Mabel and Henry have a relaxing Sunday, too.

I'm a little biased but my favorite classic tractors would be the Ford 9n and 8n, and I still see many of these (Fords) old tractors still being used on the farm's here in the Lancaster county area.

Many restore them and retire them from farming, but I do see quite a bit of rough examples still getting down and dirty and working for their farmers.

Hello Richard,
I may have some Ford's in my pictures. Still have lots of them to get on. I took over 70 pictures. I know Ford lasts a long time. They were built to last.

Old joke among tractor collectors:

"When I die, promise you won't let my wife sell the tractors for what I told her I paid for them."

Hi Matt,

Really liked your joke. I am still laughing over that.

I just found this little bit of news regarding Kelly Mcgillis who stared in the 1985 movie "Witness", it looks like she's doing another Amish related movie.

I look forward to this one since I though Miss Mcgillis did a great job in what is one of my favorite movies of all time ( Witness)!

Richard

Kelly McGillis Is Breaking Amish Again in TV Movie (Exclusive)The “Witness” and “Top Gun” star will play an Amish aunt in UP television movie “Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio”

Nearly 30 years after “Witness,” Kelly McGillis is going Amish again.

McGillis is set to co-star in the upcoming romantic mystery/suspense drama “Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio,” which will premiere on cable network UP next year.

The film, which began production this week, also stars “Chuck” alum Sarah Lancaster and Tom Everett Scott (“Southland,” “That Thing You Do!”).

In the film, Lancaster plays a single policewoman in the quaint town of Sugarcreek, Ohio, the heart of Amish country. McGillis plays Bertha, one of Troyer’s three kindly Amish aunts who run a picturesque farmhouse inn.

When a mysterious, scruffy stranger named Joe (Scott), shows up on the inn’s doorstep with his five-year-old son, the aunts insist on taking in the pair. But the policewoman’s instincts reveal his surprising identity, and the fact that he’s run away from a shocking unsolved murder.

The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Serena B. Miller, with Bryar Freed-Golden writing the script.

Hi Richard,
Thank you for telling us. I have read the book. I am so glad that they are making it into a movie. I guess it wouldn't be nice to tell the end of the book if they are making a movie. I am so glad Kelly Mcgillis is in the movie. Now if we could just get them to make a Witness, Part II.

I know a lot of farmers here that would have LOVED that auction!! Many here still use the older models, and also restore them, just for show! There sure were a lot there..how neat!

Sugarcreek isn't too far from you. Like I said, I read the book. It should be a mystery Amish movie if the movie goes by the book.

A lot of people here LOVED the auction. There may have been some people there from Ohio. A lot of people here use and or restore the older tractors. I have more posts coming on.

What a great auction. Those tractors have so much character and are so much fun to look at. Do you know if the prices were really high on some of them. Just curious to know what those lovely relics sell for.

Hi Doreen,

Yes, the prices were high on some of them. They were in the hundred of thousands of dollars. Some of them were lower, but lots of them in the high prices.
