JEAN - WHERE YOU MIGHT RUN INTO AMISH OR OLD ORDER MENNONITES

Had something planned to put on, but then thought you might find this more interesting.  If you are in an Amish or Old Order Mennonite area in what store might you see them.  I am using our local Canandaigua , New York area where we live.  If you do see someone who is Amish or Old Order Mennonite, please do not take pictures of them in their face.  That is against our beliefs and get us very upset.
So here are some places:

WALMART
We go shopping there for all sorts of needs from groceries, to appliances, to craft supplies and more.  It is a place we frequent.

LOWE'S
In our area Lowe's is right next to Walmart.  Many times I will go into Walmart and David will got into Lowe's.  They have supplies for the home - everything from nails, to lumber, garden supplies and alike.

ALDI'S
Is a grocery store that sell foods at a much lower price that your regular grocery stories.  You can go in there and buy by the case or just one item.

JO-ANN STORES
We ladies go into there for cloth to make clothes, quilts, etc.  They also have yarn, embrodery and more.  We use this one in our area over the next one because it is larger and has more items we need and use.

MICHAEL'S
This is a store similar to Jo-Ann's.  We do use items from here if we can't find them Jo-Ann's.  Both are nice craft and sewing supply stores.  I have been in areas were Michael's is bigger than Jo-Ann's.

SECOND HAND STORES
We buy everything from clothes to appliances here.  With children growing so fast, it is a great place for children's clothes.  Of course you have to check over items real well. Any appliances we must test them before we purchase them.

SEAR'S
That is in Eastview Mall which is a little way from us, but that is where we, with electric, get our major appliances like our stove, refrigerator, etc.  There prices seem to be less than other places and we get a warranty.  While in there buying our appliances, we have run into other Old Order Mennonite.  That is where we are buying the new appliances for Edward's Grandmother's house.

GARAGE SALES, RUMMAGE SALES, AUCTIONS, YARD SALES, ETC.
You may find Amish and Old Order Mennonite at these as why pay full price when you can go to one of these and get it at a much lower price.  We go to auctions for farm machinery, appliances, clothes, toys, furniture, whatever.  I have even purchased brand new items at these places.  You never know what you will find.  Again, you have to really go over items here to make sure they work and are not damaged.  Another great place for children items.

Right now, the men are going to farm auctions to buy farm equipment for Thomas.  They also have gone to farm animal auctions to purchase some animals to  start Thomas out.

From previous posts, you know we ladies love to go to these as we never know what we will find.  We have certain rummage sales that we go to every year, Lord willing.  One of our favorites are church sales.  Usually a group of us ladies hire a driver with a van to take us to these.  Marilyn likes to go to, so she has come and gotten Anna, Katie and myself . We really have a lot of fun going to these and have come up with some treasures.

This is just a small list, if you are looking to see Amish and Old Order Mennonite.  I am sure I could add other places, but these are where we go the most.

Be With God,
Jean

Good morning, Marilyn. Hope you are doing well. :-)

Old Order Mennonite and Amish live their faith differently, but we all have to eat and keep house. LOL Those are all the same places you would find me!! And if it is a garage sale with fabric...I'm there!

Good morning Jean and Marilyn! Funny how those are all the same places I also shop. Especially love Aldi's, can't beat their prices for groceries in my book. And definitely love church rummage sales, we have picked up some great bargains at those. Have a wonderful day! Cathy in Webster

Good Morning Angela,

They like to go to the same places we like to go to for the same reasons. They like all garage sales with fabric or without fabric. I enjoy taking them sometimes.

Good Morning Cathy,

I get my best pictures of horse and buggies in Aldi's parking lot. That shows how Amish and OOM go there. The prices are great there. Church sales are my favorites. I have picked up great bargains there, too.

Well, I see we shop at a lot of the same stores, just in different states. I spend more of my grocery money at Aldi's than anywhere else. It is a money saver along with the Dollar Tree store just a few stores away. How nice of Jean to share locations of where the Amish/Mennonite shop. We do enjoy seeing people of other cultures. Blessings to you all.

Hi Dynnamae n,

We don't have an Aldi's near where I live. I shop there when I got to see Jean. We do have a Dollar Tree and I like to go there. I will see that Jean gets your message.

Blessings to you and yours,
Marilyn
