GRANDMOTHER OLIVE TELLS OF PINECRAFT, FLORIDA

People asked how we made out in the tornado on late Saturday night or Sunday morning.  Albert and I slept right through it. It did not hit in our area, although it wasn't too far away. This morning, we heard about the passings and damage in church.  We offer our prayers for the families of those that passed (died) in the tornado and those that suffered losing their homes, cars, etc.

On a lighter note, Albert and I are so glad we bought our cottage.  We really enjoy it down here during the winter, although it hasn't been to bad up north.  Let me see what I can tell you has been happening.

This last Friday and Saturday, was the Haiti Auction.  Amos, Fanny, Albert and I went there.  There were auctions, breakfast, lunch and dinner, baked foods,  children rides, and more.  I think Fanny and I spent our most money at the baked foods.  Albert spent the most money on tools that he doesn't have here - for our cottage or so he said.  Amos didn't try to stop Albert from buying, in fact, he bought a few tools himself.  Oh, I almost forgot, I did buy some flowers to plant around the outside of our cottage.

Next week is the pie contest.  Fanny has entered before, this will be my first time.  I am still trying to decide what kind of pie I will enter.  Fanny and I agree, it's not if we win or not, it's just the fun doing it. You make two pies - one for judging and one for desert.  After the the pies are judged, and prizes given out, there is a lunch.

Ever week we have a dinner for charity.  Fanny, Amos, Albert and I attend most of them.  It gets us ladies out of cooking and we get a delicious meal.  We also have music, religious singing groups come and we enjoy listening to the music.

Jean mentioned in a previous post about coming down here.  Albert and I have it all worked out, if they chose to come.  Thomas and Ruth want them to come when they come.  Jean and David could have our master bedroom.  The three boys could stay in the second bedroom. as we have bunk beds there.  Susan and Katie could sleep in the pull out couch in the living room.  Thomas and Ruth would stay at Bishop Eli's second cottage.  Fanny and Amos invited Albert and I to stay with them, in their cottage while Jean and David are here.   In their cottage Fanny and Amos also have two bedrooms.  That fits everyone in here.

David says it would cost a lot for all of them to come on Amtrak or bus.  We called Porter and he said there is one bedroom on the Amtrak that could take seven people.  Knowing me, he said yes it has it's own enclosed bathroom and shower before I even asked.  So we are encouraging them in taking that.  Thomas and Ruth will have their own bedroom, so that will be no problem.

Albert and I would rather they took the Amtrak with the two small children, Katie and David Jr., than on the bus.  The children can walk around on the Amtrak, with their parents.  They can also do more things in their bedroom on the train than they can sitting on a bus. I guess, we will see.

So we are enjoying our stay here.  Jean and David would be our first northern visitors, if they come.

Be With God,
Olive

When I first heard of a tornado near Sarasota, Florida and saw the pictures on television, I called Grandmother Olive.  I was so happy to find out they were safe.  Seeing I had her on the phone, I asked her if she would do a post, which she did.  Thank you Grandmother Olive and so glad you, Albert, Fanny and Amos, along with all  the others at Pinecraft are safe and sound.

Thank you to Grandmother Olive for sharing this news with us. I hope Jean and David will go for a visit since all the sleeping arrangements are figured out. Very nice that between all of them there, they can accommodate Jeans family. The auction, dinners and pie contest all sound wonderful. So happy for them to be there and escape the winter weather.
