GORHAM FIRE DEPARTMENT - DAVID VOLUNTEER'S HERE

This is the Gorham Fire Department where David, his father, and Joseph all volunteer.  Kevin, Joseph and Martha's son,
is in training for being a fireman.  David also volunteers for their ambulance.  All are trained for fireman and David is trained for the ambulance.  Some of the Old Order Mennonite and Amish speak in Pennsylvania Dutch when they are in the ambulance so David does not only his medical but can translate or converse with the patient.  As they do not drive, other  Englisher firemen and ambulance medics drive.
The above pictures are of the front and side of the fire department.  This was on Amish Stories a while back, but I have a few more pictures since then.
This building is on one side of the firehouse. I really liked this building.
Next to the Firehouse is a picnic area.  Jean says it is used for picnics, dinners, auctions, craft sales, etc.  Most of the money from these support the Fire Department.

THANK YOU ALL THE FIREMEN AND FIREWOMEN THAT CAME TO THE FIRE OUR TOWN HAD, GORHAM INCLUDED.  YOU RISKED YOUR LIVES TO SAVE OTHERS AND OUR TOWN.  WE LOST A BLOCK BUT THE REST STILL STANDS,THANKS TO YOU.

GOD BLESS YOU !!!!

FIREMAN'S PRAYER
When duty call's me, oh Lord,
        Wherever Flames may rage,
Give me the strength to save some life
Whatever Be its age. Help me embrace a little child
        Before it is too late
Or save an older person from
The horror of that fate Enable me to be alert,
and oh Lord, guide my every move,
        for life is so precious,
please don't let us loose. I want to fill my calling and
To give the best in me
        To guard my every neighbor
And protect their property And if according to thy will,
That I must give my life,
Then with thy protecting hand my Lord,
I pray thee, protect my children and my wife. Amen

I made this up before Palmyra had their fire a week ago today. I had no idea when I made up this post what was going to happen.

My brother is a volunteer Fireman and EMT in South Dayton,NY, so I know what an ambitious commitment this is, and how important their job is. Thank you to all of the Firemen and Fire-women for this sacrifice to keep us safe.

When a fire call comes over the radio, how does David, Joseph, and Kevin get to the firehall?

Good Morning Doreen,
Now that Jean and David have moved into their new home they are closer to the firehall. They can drive their horse and buggy to the firehall. Usually David, Joseph and Kevin all go together. Before when David lived in their old house an Englisher fireman would pick him on the way to the firehall.

God Bless to all the Firemen and Fireladies that sacrifice so much for us.

Way off the subject, but if you saw Beverly Lewis movie The Shunning-the second part The Confession will be on this Sunday on Hallmark. I saw the first movie and want to see The Confession, but Survivor is on. I will have to tape one of them. Just thought I would let you know if you would like to see the movie.

Our county, and many of the counties around us are 100% volunteer, except for a town here or there, or the city portion. I only wish we had more volunteers. On my dept, we ages ranging from early 20's through retirement. Many join, but when they find out real work is involved, they quit.

Hello April,
Ours is volunteer, too. They just tried to get new people to get interested. I wish we had more, too.
